not to mention, either way I would be screwed. Obviously I did some things wrong in the pacific, but at this point I dont know what. Short of spending 100% in pacific, not sure what I could have done.

ok, felt like I had spent more than I had in Pac, but considering what was moved away by US, only 40 ipcs in first 4 turns. But even after a bad Japan DOW, its pretty much game over in Pac.
Japanese fleet can never be out of position in Pac though, at any time it can get to the critical locations. And its easier to defend since it can always block the US.
So whats an appropriate response to your J1? Japan gets 100% odds at a max US fleet in 27 and no reasonable counterattack. And a J2 would still be able to hit a few important islands without fear of any counter attack.
In 55, the odds are almost as good. Perhaps the counter attack there is better and less to gain so most likely Japan wouldnt go for it, if the UK bb is there and every available ship and air is stationed there, but it doesnt really matter since that fleet at 55 cant do anything useful and doesnt help on Allied turn 2.
The only thing I can see to do in Pac, is just hold back a turn and let Japan roam free until T5 or so? Seems like T5 is about the earliest allies can really stack 55 and Caro is not an option before then. UK cant really do anything beyond stack Burma since Japan has so many transports.
Do you have examples of what allies can do in Pac? Or do they just have to position forces in vulnerable spots because Japan is out of position if it attacks and so long term its a bad play?

@ksmckay It’s not over in the Pacific. China pretty much can’t be viably finished off, if India lives the first 6-7 rounds it’ll be tough to crack, and the Russians have options in their Siberia factory to pressure Japan.
I’ve been working on a response to my J1 positioning. By stacking the main Hawaiian sea zone and combining that with a 2 sub purchase by UK Pacific, you really can block Japan from expanding in the DEI and beyond for a couple of rounds. Not to mention that Japan will be light on that mainland as well. It looks to be a decent counter. Japan has a few less planes and the mainland is harder to traverse, Japan can’t be in China, in India, in the North and in the ocean all at the same time. Takes coordination between the powers, but together they can put pressure on Japan.

have you played out a game with a J2 attack on 27? Did US try to block at all? I guess US can stick a blocker in 26 to at least prevent japan from taking Johnston. And maybe this is wrong but it seems like in order for allies to punish a J2 in that situation, UK has to keep all its air and boats in pacific rather than going to Africa right? So doesnt that mean Egypt is pretty indefensible? Only way i saw to keep Egypt safe from an all out Italian attack on I2 was to have UK air and pacific transport in play. Similar to how BM3 tends to play out. But if those are needed in pacific for a possible J2 then that seems to make things pretty difficult for allies.
Perhaps none of this is a problem and I just need to let it play out but compared to BM3 it seems like axis are getting some really nice objectives early. Is that because they lose the ability to pummel Russia out the gate?

also, im not giving up or anything. I do feel hopelessly outmatched but its a good learning experience and I will keep trying. But turns are getting pretty complicated, having to think through a lot since I have no prior experience to tell me how certain positions will develop.

@ksmckay Yeah we have, it was quite interesting. I was playing Axis and Kid was playing Allies and we did Pearl Harbor. US triple blocked sz27 and the UK Pac bought 2 subs, which deadzoned all the DEI. I could only safely take Philippines on J2.
With just the Indian tp going to Persia, Egypt should be able to hold if appropriate other moves by UK in Europe.
