Not trying to be difficult, but that description is a bit ambiguous.
Does that description mean:
A. damage 4 CVs, sink those 4 damaged CVs, sink all 10 subs, then max defense (starting with the last hit of round 1 damaging the last CV)
B. damage 4 CVs, sink those 4 damaged CVs as well as damaging + sinking the 5th carrier, sink 9 subs, then max defense
C. damage 4 CVs, damage 2 BB (was not mentioned, but perhaps assumed?), sink those 4 damaged CVs, sink 9 subs, then max defense
D. damage 4 CVs, damage 2 BB (was not mentioned, but perhaps assumed?), sink those 4 damaged CVs, as well as damaging + sinking the 5th carrier, sink 7 subs, then max defense

I thought that would be a safe call because damaging a carrier will force surviving planes to land in adjacent territories, while damaging a battleship doesn’t affect other units in the event of a retreat.
I’ve never had an opponent choose not to damage battleships on defense when they’re adjacent to a friendly naval base, so I’m hoping you just forgot about them?

This is the third time this season that I’ve lost a massive Japanese naval attack despite 90% odds to win.

While not unlikely with battles of this scale, just drives me a little crazy when an average +100 battle ends up -100 (would have been worse if I’d stuck around for round 3 :lol:)

My experiance is that, as Japan you Need to build up a heavy fleet with lots of CV’s and Ftr’s.
Only at the very end buy some SS as canonfodder.In our case, your SS needed to hit about six times first Round, wich is 50%. Since you did not have enough CV’s and Ftr, they had a harder time to compensate to hit on Average.

I’m not sure I follow.
If I had been buying fighters and carriers, then I would never have been in a position where I had a 90% chance of sinking your fleet, because I would have less punch and fewer hitpoints on attack.
Substitute 12 of my subs for the equal IPC value of 2 carriers + 4 fighters and my odds of victory drop to 60%.
