AARHE "Official" piece colors

  • get me the measurement of the map i think i made it 72x36 which is 6x3

in that case cuts are 6 pieces at 24x18 each provided the sheets are at least 1/8 thick. If your table is flat you wont have problems.

If you print on a roll up map and make no cuts at all your ok as well

But i dont like the shinny lamination because it takes away from the map i little bit.

  • Mine will be the same at 6’ x 3’.  I was thinking of getting hard material but cut in (2) 3’ x 3’ sections.  Just so I don’t have to deal with multiples.

I also plan on getting - if possible - a 6 in border across the top and bottom.  I did that to the one I made by printing 11 x 14" sheets and taping on posterboard.  Makes a nice spot to keep play units and materials, cards, etc.

  • ok then 3x3 would be great but consider where its gonna be stowed away so it wont get damaged.

I can make the file with a border…even with custom set up sheets printed at intervals so people will know where to sit. If you want this i need the completed 1939 set ups, and ill supply the backround as promised.

  • IL, could you recommend some 1:2400 pieces to use for Navy.

My 1:2400 GHQ Micronauts just arrived of the:

    CA Prinz Eugen
      CB Scharnhorst

…and they are HUGE.  Much too big to play with on my 5’ x 3’ map.

  • OMG why did you buy that stuff?

    GHQ is a freeking joke.

    which pieces you need?

    Cruisers only?

list please and all make your order. I have everything they make and i can tell you its perfect in every detail.

  • I want to replace all the pieces plus optional ones.  I bought these two units because they were on sale and I wanted to see how they looked compared to the plastic ones.  I figured 1/2400 was well… 1/2400

Problem is, 1/2400 seems to be about twice the size of out of the box pieces.

    I’m looking for:

    Transports
    Submarines
    Destroyers
    Cruisers
    Battle Ships
    Aircraft Carriers

For all the countries required to play AARHE 1939 and small enough to fit the required units on a ~ 6’ x 3’ board.

  • @oldsalty:

Warweb is offering 40% off their Old Glory miniatures infantry packs (50 pieces) which are the same as Skytrex (Old Glory is the USA distributed name for Skytrex).  Their sale price is $8.40 per pack.  Can’t beat that price.  Unfortunately, they don’t carry all of Skytrex products.

Hey OldSalty – did your infantry every arrive?  I jumped on this bandwagon around the 13 Aug, but haven’t seen anything yet vs. GHQ that got it here within a week.

  • Nada.  They said it could take several weeks.  Apparently they don’t have them in stock and their coming from across the pond.  My C-in-C tanks got here less than a week.

  • The approximate scale of the pieces in A&A is as follows.

    BB and CV, 1/4800
    DD and Transports, 1/2400
    Subs, about 1/1800
    Fighters, 1/360
    Bombers, 1/600 to 1/720
    Infantry, 1/72 or 76
    Armor, 1/285 or so
Artillery, not sure, varies quite a bit.  They appear to make the artillery pieces to be about the same size.

It would appear that the intent is to make they easier to hold while keeping them all about the same size.

  • That appears to make sense from the few pieces I’ve ordered to compare size and quality.

What is the difference between 1/2400 and 1/3000 in inches?  Looks like the 1/2400 is an USA scale (based in ft/in).  Is the 1/3000 the European scale based in meters?

Side by side, would a 1/2400 piece actually be 20% smaller than a 1/3000 scale piece?

  • forget about 1/3000. just forget about it.

AA scale IS 1/2400…if you want really small ships then buy 1/3000 and people will think your BB is a small destroyer

  • IL:

Where do you suggest to get national decals for the armor and planes.  I don’t want to draw them on.

  • only for tanks and planes, from GHQ… they don’t make decals for 1/2400 ships

look up www.brookhursthobbies.com and call them and tell them what you have and they will mail them out.

tell them you got 1/285 micro armor and 1/700 scale planes and need decals.

you can also buy them from www.scalespecialties.com  ask for norm or pen

AA scale for destroyers is approximately 1/2400, 1" equals 200 feet.  On that scale an Iowa-class battleship would be almost 4.5" long, rather than the 2.25" it actually is.  Scale for the battleships runs from about 1/3600 for the UK Royal Soveriegn to about 1/4700 for the Iowa.  The Yamato is about 1/4200 and the Bismarck is about 1/4300.  The scale for the aircraft carriers ranges from the Wasp at about 1/3500 to the Shinano at about 1/4200, as all of the carriers are the same length, 2.5".  The two cruisers are about 1/3700 scale.  The subs range from the German Type VIIC at about 1/1400 to the Japanese I-15 class at about 1/2400.

If you buy 1/3000 scale ships, which is 1" equals 250 feet, an Iowa will run about 3.5 inches, considerably larger than the destroyers in the game.

I will post the scales for the aircraft once I finish measuring them.

Thats a complete waste of time…. The only scales for small inexpensive metal ships THAT IS ACTUALLY CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTION IS 1/2400 AND 1/3000…SO THE ONLY REALISTIC OPTION IS TO BUY 1/2400 SCALE WHICH ARE OFFERED FROM NAVWAR AND SKYTREX, WHILE 1/3000 SCALE IS TOO LARGE.

The scales are the same regardless representing objects 1/3000 or 1/2400 times smaller than original. Its not a Metric vs. English system.

Axis and allies uses 1/700 scale planes and 1/285 armor and 15 MM infantry ( or to convert you use HO 1/87 plastic or 1/72). These are the scales your looking for and i already posted the order sheet in another thread.
