I’m having trouble figuring out what to do with japan and have another game that I am obsessing with a bit too much right now. But I should have time to think this through and post by Saturday.

@MrRoboto Yeah. I’m kind of blown away at how desperate Japan’s situation is. Maybe winning that sea battle will give me the space to recover in the pacific but I’m certainly still in trouble. Europe is looking better for me, but you are also in a good position there too.

Creating multiple threats and fronts against Japan is the key as Allies. So you have to have good timing - Russia in Siberia (or alternatively by bringing tanks+mechs+planes to Yunnan very early), UK in Burma and USA at Caroline, ideally with Anzac too (having anzac planes on US carriers is a nice bonus I wasn’t able to exploit in this game).
The Allied player only has 1-2 turns to create this situation, though - most often in the exact turn when Japan is about to declare war and get those money islands (java/Borneo/Sumatra/Celebes). If the Allies miss this opportunity, they are in a horrible spot afterwards.
That way Japan has to sacrifice something or spread out it’s forces a lot.
When I am Axis, I try to overcome that situation by placing the first factory at Manchuria - this ensures 3 new units there every turn. I have to make sure 3-4 planes are always in range to fly back to defend it against the 18 Russian infantry and thus I am still able to move the biggest part of my army down to India. If you have to use lots of units to defend against Russia, India has way too much freedom.That is, by the way, probably the biggest reason why the Harbour at Hainan is so valuable. With 8-10 planes, even 2 transports at French Indochina are a huge threat to India, when you have a harbour there! If you pin down UK, they are no threat at all to Japan so Japan can concentrate on holding the money islands and keeping US away from Caroline (I hate it so much, when the Allies hold Caroline, since Japan cannot easily reinforce the navy then).

I have a general sense I think about how one needs to pressure Japan from all sides. But even so I was surprised by the weakness of my position at this point in the game.
Earlier when you threatened in with the Soviets in the North, I figured you probably won’t go for it because I would wipe you out and you would lose the Soviet bonuses if japan attacks. So I had my units near but not in an immediate position to counter. I regret that now as I think that really helped pull me in too many directions

this would be a rather belated change but I was just looking at the map again and not understanding why I decided to move the Italian units from Belarus to East Poland. If it is not too late I would prefer to to leave them in Belarus. No worries if I’m stuck with the choice.
