    My idea was to use the USA airstrike and then the UK battleship to get the planes off your damaged carriers and then ANZAC finish off that fleet or at least reduce it.  A high risk, high profit gamble that went terribly wrong.  Now I am kind of screwed in the Pacific.  But oh well I get to kill Italy next turn so that’s something.  :|

    I usually consider US suicide airstrikes and follow up combo attacks, so I did in this case. I have to say I stopped further calculations as I thought the average survivors against the air strike would be sufficient to keep the attack off. Always tricky because casualty selection has to be considered. But it seemed to me that I could at least keep one or two carrier undamaged and take air off instead and keep the capital ships to survive against follow up attacks. I indeed did not have the UK BB on the radar.
    Luckily the dice worked in my favor here.

    However this was the first time such a combo attack was executed against me so I now know that I am not paranoid:D

    @variance:

    My idea was to use the USA airstrike and then the UK battleship to get the planes off your damaged carriers and then ANZAC finish off that fleet or at least reduce it.  A high risk, high profit gamble that went terribly wrong.  Now I am kind of screwed in the Pacific.  But oh well I get to kill Italy next turn so that’s something.   :|

    In the first run I aborted calculations after I saw the result of the US air strike I now spend some additional thoughts on it. I am not sure, but I do not know how to tell the OOP in the calculator to tip and sink a CC before tipping the second one.

    In a nutshell I believe that the triple attack needed good luck to succeed and that with average dice the Japanese fleet would survived. In case of a total annihilation with maybe 2 Japanese fighters at Java the situation would have been interesting but not necessarily lost for Japan.

    However with that complicated OOP scenarios some unknown risks remain I guess.
