Su, my sub in SZ 98 doesn’t count as an Allied Ship for the purposes of denying the Italian NO (no allied ships SZ 92-99)?
Nope. The NO is applicable to “surface warships” of which neither subs nor transports count. It’s specific to explicitly prevent what you were attempting to do, put in place a unit that can’t be killed to deny it :P. The layout of the med make clearing subs much more difficult than clearing a sub from SZ125.
But here’s what the NO says… well, here’s my question about it:
am currently in a game and placed a UK sub in SZ 98. After Italy’s turn, Italy received it’s 5PU NO for controlling the Med. The only thing in the Med is a British sub in SZ 98.
Shouldn’t that sub prevent the NO? Even in the game notes (regarding SZ 125), here is what it says: 5 PUs if Russia is at war, sz125 has no Axis warships (all sea units except transports), Archangel is Russia-controlled, and there are no allied units in any originally Russian territories.
For the Med, it states the following: 5 PUs if no Allied ships are in the Med: sz92,…,sz99.
So, from inference, it would appear that even an allied trannie in the Med would negate the NO, let alone a sub, correct? Of course, my core question is regarding the sub.
(I mean, geesh, the one says warships for 125, the other says any ship… right?)

Hah! I learned something new today. Didn’t even know that TripleA had notes that talked about the rules :P. I’ve got two digital copies of the boxed rules on my desktop and use those as reference (those do explicitly state “surface warship”. Might be a good idea to download those just in case there are more errors in the TripleA notes.
LOL that would require more reading for me. After tax season, the only thing I read are chess annotations and baseball game recaps. :)
However, I would love to purchase the entire boardgame at some point…. whenever it is somewhat “finalized”…
