I expected to lose, but losing but this margin in a key battle (especially when the Allies chose a less defense oriented OOL) tips the game badly.

Yeah, I think I eyeballed max defense at around 4 remaining US units on average. But, I knew that even if you had won, I still had 2 SS, 5 bmb to mop up anything you had left so I could afford to gamble a little with my losses.
I think the Axis should probably concede since Japan won’t be able to contribute anything after a few rounds.
I’d say see what Germany does against Russia before you pack up.
