    Well played. Not sure where I made the big mistake… There were many small errors. The biggest might be not to focus enough on one part of the map, but it seemed if I let the other side go wild, it will be beyond repair.

    I don’t think there was much in it, I feel we played as well as each other but I lucked into an effective strategy. You had Japan bottled up and the Middle East secured but the German fleet convoy blockading and threatening the UK seemed to make the difference.

    I’d played Trulpen recently and he did his thing of having a decent German fleet hanging around Ireland and Gibraltar threatening England and protecting the entrance to the Med. After turn 1 of this game I had a lot of German ships left and not many Italian ones so thought I’d try investing a bit each turn in German Navy and using it to deter the US from going after the Italians. Seemed to work but I would be interested to hear your thoughts on it as I’d not tried this strategy before?

    I’m sure someone more experienced would spot things, but I didn’t see much you did wrong. I did remember being pleased to take Leningrad and Ukraine on G4, maybe one of those could have been blocked up a turn longer, but you marshalled the Red Army well and I had to wear Russia down economically before I was able to take Moscow.

    The fleet battle in the Med was weird. Italian navy attacked, you went max defense (which is what I would have done) and damaged the carriers, then the Italians did so badly I had to pull them out. This then left a situation where Germany could take Gibraltar and seal the Allied fleet in the Med and not have to risk a battle, then return to the UK. That wasn’t the plan, but worked out well for me and maybe in the end that was enough to tilt it. What did you think about how the game played out and what I did well or not so well?

    2 - 0 to me seems an unfair reflection after 2 even games. I’d be happy to have a rematch if you want, also happy for you to choose the side you prefer to play.


  • @flyingbadger Yes, the strong German navy seems to be a good way in PtV. As it is difficult to break the Russians quickly, Germans need time to wear them down, and for that, you can not allow US to start invading the mainland.

    I am not sure what would happen if US invests heavily in Atlantic? That would launch D Day in time for the Europe and to save the Russians, but would they be able to stop Japan in Pacific?

    I am not experienced enough to give some smarter thoughts on this, but hey… we will both learn :)

    I would like to start a new game with Allies, try to play it better. If you agree, set it up and let’s get it going.
