yah, with three diffrent idealogies competing for contol, that would be cool, but i was going for a game that was a little less black and white
leaders of arab countires are more often allied with western powers than with Islam, Russia and China are not on the best terms either, and in this game i am going to make it possible for Russia and China to have full scale war with each other. Also its not like the US, UK, and France are able to agree on eyerthing either. I think it is best if they are seperate powers.
sure their will still be too sides, NATO, headed by the US, and the Warsaw Pact, headed by the Soveits. but the alliances are not set.
In fact at the start of the game all countries should still be at peace. each power can either buy NATO or WARSAW Pact vicotry points with 10 IPCs, of course doing that lowers the effectiveness of their armies the next turn, and so should only do this when they are not expecting attack
THe US and USSR are the only countries that start out active, If US/UK/France are attack all of those countries can become active, of course I am going to have diplomacy rolling that can weaken or change the NATO alliance
China, and India are different. You can gain control of them diplomaticly or you can attack them to makes them active. if you attack one, the other becomes contoled by your alliance
The diplomacy thing will be clearer later, I also might make diffrent national objectives for each contry so that when you have more than two players, diplomacy can be represented by people instead of dice rolls.
Probably Confederate infantry attire would strongly resemble British or French kit, to include either the Adrian, or, even more likely, the Brodie helmet.
One imagines that the Union would take its cues from the Germans, or, even more likely, the Russians, meaning either no helmet, or else some version of the stahlhlem. It’s also possible that one might see a distinctive steel hat more akin to the M1, or even a kind of “stovepipe” or “top hat” in steel.
I’m trying hard to think up certain National Advantages. Perhaps Confederate cavalry would be able to execute a kind of blitzkrieg. Would it be likely that a nation without much native automobile production, but having to cover a long border with a relatively small standing army, would develop a heavy emphasis on motorization?
As early as Bull Run, both armies were learning the military value of railroads.

Yeah, I’ve adopted that Vichy idea in other games in the past, essentially for the 1940 games. It’s simple, but adds some unknowns, and stays true to history. When the Allies landed in Torch, they had no idea what to expect from the French forces. While not much blood was shed against them, there were varying degrees of French resistance to the landings, from surrendering immediately, to straight up changing sides, to fighting back with all they had. So I’ve done a simple rule: once the Allies attack a Vichy territory, you roll a dice for each unit. 1-3 they become Allied, 4-6 they become Axis (were neutral before) and fight back. You do this for each territory as it’s attacked, helping with the uncertainty of what different garrisons might do. If the Axis move into Vichy territories at all, the French forces fight against them immediately.

So yes, the Vichy aspect would be part of this, on top of the rest.
I agree with you, you couldn’t go too far out of Africa. I wouldn’t envision this game going any further North than Rome. Maybe even just to Reggio di Calabria at the tip of the boot even. That was only a thought if the Mediterranean wanted to be used at all. This would still encompass Sicily and Malta, so that would still be interesting. If not, I say just a map of North Africa, stretching from Morocco to Cairo, or Tunisia to Cairo, depending on the time line preferred.
So sounds like, by your omission of mentioning the USA, you’re in favor of an early war scenario?
Given that my thought process here is an A&A official game, I don’t think hexes is envisioned here. I think Battle of the Bulge does that, but again, have not played. I suppose you could, but I’d be in favor of what you say, chopping up territories into multiple smaller ones.
I think a one round of combat situation would work for this game. A lot of North African fights weren’t as drawn out as in other theaters (save some of the more famous ones). To that end, I’d even say one round of combat, then everyone disengages until the next round. The dessert made communications hard, I think this would well simulate that small tactical battles that had to happen.
Again, given the scope of an A&A game, I don’t know well how weather or terrain may fit into the mold. I think you maybe have something done to simulate the dessert. Whether that be no blitzing for combat, affecting free moving, etc., but not sure. But that’s part of why I’ve posted here! To see what others may think! I agree, lost to consider here, though the guys on this forum are usually up for that

Italy- I could use some help here. This is what I was thinking, you really can’t give them a ligitamate Nat’l advantage because the majority of there equipment was crap. Add that to the even crappier training there military overall recieved, backed by their puny production rate, I say give them MORE ships at start of game. Italy did have a rather large Surface fleet, bigger then Germany’s Maybe they get another BB and transport with there fleet. This would be their Nat’l. Advantage.

AA guns- You can Have as many AA guns as you want per territory but gain the benifit of only having one. Only 1 AA gun per territory per turn may fire. This is also true for V-2 Rockets.
If you want utilize your new trucks that came with Battle of the bulge game,
Trucks- Cost 4 IPC’s move 3 Attack 0 Defend 0 Transport 1 Inf. + 1 Arty or 1 Inf Can be captured not destroyed If a territory is lost that contains a truck the new owner may immiediatly use the truck as it had not moved and was his at the begining of their turn. Passengers Dismount upon contact with the enemy and defend as normal. Trucks movement ends when something dismounts. Trucks can Load move load and move again
Also this map is perfect if you don’t neccassarily want russia involved right away, kinda like Xeno games world at war.Llots of possibilities with this set up
