It will probably be a day or so before I can get to my turn but I just wanted to note that my odds on Moscow are pretty good. Maybe I’m missing something but I think I have about 97-98%. I don’t think that wins me the game. Japan is still pretty weak and you are going to hit Germany pretty hard from the West in a moment. And you might have good reason to go for that combat even if it is a loss. But my assumption right now is that a win there for me improves my chances in the game. Anyway just thought it would be a cheap way for me to win if you just miscounted that combat and thought I would let you know.

Nah, it’s fine. My experience with moving the Russian troops out of Moscow is that this does more harm than good. It usually means that Germany can build up the army for 1-3 more turns and then win with a far better TUV difference, making the go on Egypt that much harder.
So I just left them there and hope for good dice results to shoot down some planes. No problem and there was probably some self interest in my post. I was expecting you to pull back and was surprised when you didn’t. So I was already thinking of my next move on the basis that you would probably retreat. And I did my buy on the assumption that I just needed enough to convince you to retreat so I could spend the rest in W Europe to try to turn the allies back.
But you might very well be right that it is better to go for it. And of course you might win the battle or force me to trade most of my air force for the win. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
I was also thinking that a key turning point in our previous game was a misjudgement of the threat the US posed to your German fleet. I was playing more desperately then and was happy you missed it of course. But I think the threat of US navy and air was easier to miss then than the German land and air now. If the game does turn on this battle I thought it would suck if it was just an oversight.
