  • @dazedwit I also just noticed I did not mention the UKP airbase, what is the purpose of that? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before, assuming it goes on Malay?

  • @TinCanoftheSea

Ceylon. But Malaya and Borneo could be fun too.

Now getting six fighters to India before Japan is the issue

  • 25 24 23 22 21 20 19 18

    @dazedwit

Already a AB in India. How does that benefit UKP ?

  • @dazedwit ah okay, I guess I do recall seeing that quite a few years ago. @barnee it is to get a 2 3 plane scrambles for a Japanese amphibious assault. I’ve never seen it done but I’d think it would be more helpful to just buy units to defend Calcutta

  • @TinCanoftheSea

ahh … yes. I also agree that dudes on India be better. I don’t think UK has enough Air to staff them both ? Maybe by rd 2 if ANZAC can get there but then, don’t really need it rd 1 then

I think JPN would defeat it piecemeal. Idk though. I’ve never tried it.

  • @barnee yeah I’ll have to test it out some time. I think the only way to staff it would be if ANZAC helped like you said, UKP can’t afford it and UKE would be drastically weakened sending the RAF East

  • @TinCanoftheSea

Yes Anzac needs to help. Calcutta is going to fall regardless so either abandon it for Persia or set up a six plane scramble and make Japan lose lots of expensive equipment. If you are just building infantry Japan won’t even lose a plane.

A fun strategy is to drop AB on Borneo and get two inf and at least 3 fighters on it turn one. It creates a large expensive distraction if Japan wants the money islands

  • @dazedwit
You are 100% trolling. Nobody who buys 3 Rus bmb r1 is winning even rarely against competent play.

  • @Galendae

I buy 1 Russian bomber every single turn after too

  • @dazedwit So, you buy to turn 5, then surrender?

  • @Galendae I wipe out the Germans

  • 2026

@dazedwit - to illustrate the feasibility, perhaps you could outline an example troop disposition from Poland to Russia over 5 or 6 rounds. For example, Turn 1 [Poland - Ger - #inf/#art, etc]…all the way to [Russia - Soviet - #inf/#bomb, etc]

This would illustrate the German attack, Soviet buildup, and eventual final battle that breaks the German assault.

I think what folks are struggling with is the lack of Soviet infantry on the field and how 8 bombers (6 avg hits on offense, less any AAA casualties) is making up for ~30 infantry. Are the T1 Soviet infantry all consolidated back into one mass, allowing for rapid German expansion and Soviet income loss? It seems an apt German player would carry an extra AAA or two with their leading column to mitigate the air threat, or simply surround Russia with deadzones and go for a mobility kill while the main column deploys to the Middle East or elsewhere as the rest of the game takes shape.

    Appreciate the discussion.

  • @SeaYa

If G1 Barbarossa, buy 1 SB, rest on inf every turn beginning R2. Keep moving Far East troops towards Moscow.

I discovered this strategy by accident.

Germany bought a major factory in Romania and attacked across the front G1. I was so offended I bought 3 SB’s to bomb that factory.

    G2: 10 tanks in Romania
G3: 6 tanks in Romania pay off $20 in damage
G4: start building tanks in Berlin to avoid paying $20 to repair factory

Traded border areas a couple times and then full on retreat to Moscow began leaving single inf to slow Germany down

On G5 Germany has massive stack of tanks and mechs and some infantry with a lot of bombers a couple spaces back with smaller army from Bryansk.

Moscow had maybe 30 inf and planes etc. Russia also had units outside of Moscow that could all reach Bryansk at once

R5: attack the German stack with everything

All those German fighters couldn’t enter newly conquered territories.

It was a tight battle but Russia won and won the game.

If I was going to lose planes I would retreat to Moscow and send my 6 SB’s to the Siberian troops which should be one space away and you should be able to retake Moscow

Adding SB’s to Russian counter attacks means Russia is taking them with 3+ infantry.
Tanks can get immediately killed after taking territory, planes don’t have that worry.

    @Galendae

You know, it’s OK to disagree with someone. You don’t need to insult them in the process.

Thanks - this was the critical context:

    G2: 10 tanks in Romania
G3: 6 tanks in Romania pay off $20 in damage
G4: start building tanks in Berlin to avoid paying $20 to repair factory

Traded border areas a couple times and then full on retreat to Moscow began leaving single inf to slow Germany down

On G5 Germany has massive stack of tanks and mechs and some infantry with a lot of bombers a couple spaces back with smaller army from Bryansk.

The value of infantry in lieu of bombers, wins out. Changing a battle calc from 30inf, 2 art, 2 tank, 2 fight, 1 tac, 8 bombers to 60 inf, 0 bomber, all else equal, boosts the %win from mid 65 to 97 when going against 5 inf, 15 mech, 20 tanks, no AAA (1st scenario drops to 37% with 2 AAA defending. I think this is why all the pushback. I agree, against a stalled out German attack (the trading border territories you mentioned) the bombers would indeed help manage dead zones for max German inf loss, preserving Soviet territory. However, advanced German players will rarely, if ever, have a stalled out attack, and will not be trading territories on the border for multiple rounds.

  • @SeaYa

On a G1 Germany doesn’t have enough units on border to hold until round 2 or 3 so trading them is pretty much a guarantee every time I believe.

I reset the battle and removed say half the tanks and replaced each with two inf each. This was also a very tight battle but went in Germany favor this time with maybe two tanks left give or take.

That reset taught me the value of German infantry as I always want to buy tanks and bombers when going for Moscow.

Game I’m playing now, Germany did Sea Lion so Russia burst forward and has been collecting $21 in NO’s for a few turns. Germany takes border territories of Berlin but Russia takes them right back and since each battle has a couple SB’s Russia is retaking them with at least 3 infantry.

The taking of territories with extra units left behind like that really alters the war of attrition in Russia’s favor quite a bit.

Germany just did a surprise strike on Leningrad and also took out 3 SB’s. Italy finally in the Balkans so Russia will get kicked out probably by R8.

I’m about to film R6 for my latest strategy series
