ÂPlease take this for what it’s worth, and I only mention it because you mentioned your Allied struggles. Â I think if Russia does the R1 DOW on Japan, you need to attack Man or Korea with a dude, to force Mongolia to go True Neutral rather than Neutral / Non-Aggression. Â Gamer explained it to me as an attack to prevent Mongolia from joining the Russians. Â
I’m still torn on this myself. Â It’s an extra pack of INF that Russia gets at no charge, but I belive the game population feeling is that the road to Moscow gets easier with the extra territories open. Â I dunno, just something to think about.

I never considered the idea that keeping territory closed off would outweigh the benefit of 6 bonus infantry plus suiciding an extra one to achieve that … I haven’t played Allies enough to see how much opening Mongolian territory makes a difference.

I’m not convinced either. Zuk and I talked about it a bit and he thinks attacking Korea is a mistake. As Japan, I like to see a R1 DOW, it’s pretty easy money and in some ways gets your assets into play faster.
Since that is what I see from the Axis side of the board, I think it’s a pretty bold move and one that I have only tried once myself, with the intent of bringing US forces in from the north.
