A REQUEST FOR HBG



  • It seems that it will be a while before FMG gets to the naval bases,Industrial complexes and AA guns. I don’t know if this has come up but it would be great if HBG would do these. I saw the list FMG has for all of the nation units and it appears it may be a while. I am in no way criticizing FMG on his venture I only appreciate his efforts as I have ordered both the Italians and Germans. I was just hoping to get these pieces sooner. Thank you for your reply.

    AA GUNS/ Flak Towers-24
    Air Bases-12

    Well,

    Let’s just make a List of Everything I’ve heard talked about or requested to be made:

    GENERIC UNITS

    1.  Air Bases……We’ve just GOT to have these.
    2.  Naval Bases…    "      "      "    "    "      "
    3.  Major Industrial Complex
    4.  Minor      "            "
    5.  Barracks(Quonset Huts that only produce Infantry)
    6.  Tech Research Centers
    7.  Anti-Aircraft Guns
    8.  Flak Towers
    9.  Coastal Guns
    10.  Fortifications-Sub Pen
    11.          "        Pill Box
    12.          "        Sandbagged Position
    13.          "        Aircraft Revetments

    ----------------------------------------------

    I think whatever units “Coach” may choose to to include in this set they should be:

    A.  Only produced in ONE “generic” color.  To produce them in “nation-specific” colors would only be wasteful of precious capital by a factor of 9X.

    B.  Only have ONE of each piece in the mold, but the Set to have multiples of each.

    Personally, I think EVERYONE is tired of the cardboard Air and Naval Bases!

    And while I would enjoy some “new” Major and Minor I.C.s I would be perfectly happy with the Complexes from the RISK game, UNPAINTED, thereby saving him a lot of money that could be invested in other “new units”.

    The Barracks and Tech Centers I think deserve serious consideration.  Although I personally wouldn’t use them,…I believe MOST players would welcome one or both of these.

    The other units listed could add interesting depth to our games and deserve some more discussion.

    I have a question about the proposed “Tech Research Centers” piece.  Would this tie into the Weapons Development phase somehow?  Or would it be used on one of those Tech Trees that some players are suggesting to replace the Weapons Development.  For example:  after so many rounds you can move up from light tanks to medium tanks, then after a few more rounds from medium to heavy tanks, etc.

    Perhaps each nation would HAVE to have a Tech Research Center or they would be unable to graduate to the next level.  For that matter, I suppose it could work for the current Weapons Development action as well.  Like if you didn’t have a Tech Research Center, you couldn’t buy dice for Weapons Development.  OR, you could buy dice and roll them for Techs, but you couldn’t USE the tech until you got a Tech Research Center.
    Also, I imagine Tech Research Centers could be SBRed as well.  With X number of damage points, you can’t obtain a new technology until the center is repaired.  Is this pretty much what you guys had in mind for this piece?

With some rules regarding new technology ( like Magic/Ultra/Enigma/ Espionage) that is developed you gain the ability to locate the research center and latter bomb it, reducing the odds for techs. Otherwise, it would get you a boost in obtaining tech since you bought a center.

    SO:

    1. you start with minimal tech gaining capability
    2. You can buy a Tech center and get better odds to develop some technologies
    3. the enemy can research a tech to discover the location of your research center and destroy it
    4. loss of center makes it harder to get tech

    Thats the overall idea without specifics.

    Thanks IL.  This gives me a better idea about Tech Centers although I would like to learn more about them.  For now, a couple of more questions:
    1 - Would your enemy need  a Tech Center in order to research the “spy” technology to find your tech center?
    2 - Would Tech Centers work better with a Tech Tree or the current dice rolling Tech Development system?
    3 - So a Tech Center is not a permanent fixture like an IC or air/naval base?  It can be destroyed rather than damaged?  Also, I assume if it is destroyed, then you can also buy a new one.

    1. no, it only makes it more probable for research to bear fruit.
    2. definatly something different than OOB, which is stupid. “War Bonds” as Technology? Give me a break.
    3. it would be but its location secret and off board ( or not). It would be like some secret Air base. The enemy would need to develop a technology to find it and then destroy it and yes you can replace it but you can only have one at a time.

    I might be remembering wrong,…but I thought you said you’d have some news for us on this soon.  I was hoping when the Italians sets came in we would at least get some news on these.  Got my fingers crossed.

    They went with the Autoblinda 41 armored car instead.  That represents the Mech Inf piece for Italy.

    I know FMG did and it represents the Mech Inf… this is a thread for HBG.  Since they are doing the supplementary units, wondered if they’d considered doing a halftrack for the Italians.
