    Okay, a quick heads up:

    I didn’t realize that the aa would fire in non-combat as well.  That’s fine, and I’ll take my lumps.  What I do NOT want to do is to take a hit in Tuscany due to stupid routing of the game.  The zeppelin went to Istria, and went over Venice in non-com (and was shot at and missed).  Then it should have gone through Milan to Piedmont, and that’s what the map looked like (but lots of stuff there) but instead it also fired in Tuscany and hit.  There was no reason to ever fly that one over Tuscany, so I will edit back on a zeppelin.

    Apparently you knew this which is why the aa gun is pulled forward.  Is there a place where newbies would know that this is the case in the rules?  :)

    Great War follows ‘revised rules’ which is why AA guns fire in both combat and non-combat for flyovers (the notes mention it follows revised so you’d need to reference the revised rule book).

    I’m fine with the edit since Venice was the first shot and it missed and you only needed to fly over 1 AA gun. Though I’m kind of shocked that only 1 zepplin then has been shot down across the last 2 US turns :(

    Well, actually two got shot down last turn, one during the bombing and one on the way to the bombing.  ;)

    So, revised is an AA always fires game.  No problems there, that was the one A&A game I didn’t really play (thousands of 2nd and 3rd edition, then went straight for the Anniversary edition, which I still believe is much better balanced than Global 1940, which league insists on playing here).

    Yeah, a good percentage of the ‘popular’ custom made TripleA games are based on revised ruleset (NWO, WaW, TRS, Big World, Great War, LOTR, etc).     :-D Yes, that’s part of the fun of the dice game.  That’s also why (good and bad) I think that real dice are better – battles were never guaranteed in real wars, and dice management becomes a skill.

    For example, hitting your cavalry stack on the French turn – the rewards outweighed the risks in a 44% battle (in essence).  Of course, I was totally rejected after the first hit, but that’s life.  :)  But, those types of decisions are not a part of low luck, where everything can be scientifically calculated to the end (almost).  That is especially true of power retreats – if power retreats were guaranteed to succeed or fail, then the retreat rules would never be set up as they are currently, and I think that is my biggest single complaint against low luck.  You know, where troops that move one space can move a second one forward on a retreat when multiple stacks are attacking.  If people play low luck, but that rule isn’t changed, then it doesn’t make sense imho.
