Recruiting new players, even with 2nd edition is/was always hard, because of the skill level. Even if the opening moves for every country are optimized it is far from clear for new players. It takes a while to comprehend the mechanics of pushing, retreating, feints, death zones etc. If a new player is willing to pretty much lose the first 20 games he/she will become a worthy opponent, but most people are not that persistent to learn a game that takes a pretty long time to understand. When they finally are decent enough to understand why bids are a necessity it will have taken a long time. Times have changed as well… When I grew up I didn’t have internet or a computer, so when it rained we had to play board games, nowaday it is almost an exception if teens play a board game.
How Many People Use the Two-hit BB in A&A?

How many people go ahead and play the two-hit BB in A&A?
-
I always ask everyone else what they want, 1 or 2 hit. Most of the time we end up with 1 hit but I like 2 hit better so I said yes. If there was a third choice on the poll of ‘maybe’ or ‘depends’ I would have selected that instead of yes.
-
yep, 2 hit is better. with 1 hit bs navies tend to disappear real freakin’ quick. so yeah we use 2 hit
-
Normally we play destroyers (8 IPC, Att 2, Def 2) instead. However, I prefer 2H-BBs sometimes.
-
it was a given when we played, just seemed weak for the battle ship to sink after one hit to us…
-
i never play this in a&a,
i always play this in a&a Europe. -
Aren’t two hit BBs a rule in AAE?
-
I always ply 2 hit BBs even though I think its an advantage for the Allies. We alwas used to play that if a BB was dammaged it stayed that way. Then we decided that BBs should be able to go to port and be repaired for 1D6. Now we just play by the rules from revised.
-
Two hit BB’s are a rule in AAE I believe, and a house rule could possibly come out of this. Say that you have designated port territories where your battleships could go to be repaired when damaged. Some examples would be the German ports at Kiel and in France and then they would have the Italian ports in Taranto. Just a thought.

My first game of axis and allies was on the new board so yes I always play with two hit BB now. Even on the old board.
-
I try to always play with them as well - it’s a good rule. I believe it was an official optional rule with 3.0 first… not sure.
