RE: Ethics Rounds
m_00,
I understand. Used to work in a drug rehab/psych hospital where we had the same thing happen every cold/snowy spell and a few rainy spells, too. One homeless guy would come in for detox wearing nice clothes(dirty), wore $400[cost 15 years ago]cowboy boots(with ‘the good pair’ in his duffle), and two large boxes of his possessions. He’d crash and the first nice day he was out the door.I say “No way, hoser!”

RE: Germanys french revenge! New tactic for trial..
Awards to both dz_fish and c_c_, 8)
Gwyneth Paltrow, in a lacey white evening dress which allows you to see every curve without seeing anything steps to the podium, opens the envelope, glances around the auditorium and says, “The Silver Lining Award goes to dezrtfish for encouragement.”
Hali Barry, in a draping low-cut front and an even lower-cut back shimmering silk gown steps to the podium, opens the envelope, looks in the camera and says, “The Pat on the Back Award goes to cystic_crypt for recognition of a good thing.”
Xi shouts from the 3rd row, “The ballots have been tampered with. I was robbed!” He is promptly dragged screaming from the theatre.

RE: My tech rules
Great ideas, dz_fish!
I would think that the answer to k_a’s ? would be YES.
As for ctm’s ? YES would be most likely as, even with the occupation of Germany, I’d think inf for defense would be a top priority and other industries would be a shambles!Like the Mechtroops…had that idea myself(but you get patent rights :) .)
Suggestions and ?s…
Heavy armour is too costly… recommend 6 IPCs. It must cost more as it is a breakthrough, but don’t put it out of reach(breakthrough puts it in reach.)Para’s must be limited to 2 para’s per air trans unit.
Is there an increased cost of torpedo/dive and naval/ftr bmrs. Wouldn’t they be 13-14 IPCs as they are closer in size to ftrs.
In addition shouldn’t the effectiveness of torp & naval bmrs be investigated. I doubt they were effective 2/3s of the time.(I’m beeing to picky here, I believe.)Is there an increased cost for improved subs or Htrans?
Hbmrs get a second attack(limit one die)? Will you limit them to no more than 1/3 of bmr force rounded down?
Acquired tech… so US could spend 5 IPCs on development of its own tech and spend another 5 IPCs on retooling for a tech UK had obtained. Sounds good to me. US at least would be techrolling every turn, ubetcha!

RE: Happy Math v Terrorism
I agree w/Y_sman,
And when I find myself afraid of the bad guys for any reason I just remember the Iraqi Information Minister, “there are no American forces in Iraqi, but if they are here we are are destroying them.” And the film footage of the Iraqi military straegy meeting where the map on the wall was shaking because of the bombs exploding outside the building.
Or closer to home … anybody see the news about the “Kissing Bandit” @ the Cincinnati Reds game on Saturday? He was pictured kissing his date ON THE JUMBOTRON and his parole officer was @ the game. He was arrested @ the 7th inning stretch for violating parole(he didn’t show up @ his last hearing)and may go to jail for up to 20 years.

RE: Gov. Jeb Bush Ignites National Abortion Controversy
There is no single answer, right or wrong, to all the possible scenarios here, but I believe…
in many cases the woman and man make a decision to have unprotected sex…this was/is still considered wrong in many cultures/religions…
the woman feels forced/chooses to have an abortion…this was/is still considered wrong in many cultures/religions…
“Two wrongs don’t make a right” seems to fit many possible scenarios here.
In a previous forum here I mentioned that I had volunteered in a pregnancy crisis center for a few years. Many women came in for help after the abortion with guilt and remorse over what they had done. Some were dealing with issues from 20 years before.
Another situation I mentioned was that of a friend who had an abortion after having 3 kids. Her 9 year old son found out and said(paraphrased), “Why did you do that? One more mouth to feed wouldn’t be that hard. The food bank or church would have helped. I wish you would have had the baby.” Now mom, dad and three kids have to live with the aftermath.
One abortion can effect a potential mom, potential dad, potential brother(s), potential sister(s), potential grandmother(s), potential grandfather(s) , potential aunt(s) and uncle(s), friends, neighbors, etc.
Mother Teresa was asked if a cure to AIDS would ever be found. Her reply, “It was, but the discoverer was a victim of abortion.”

RE: German Taxation of Prostitution…
Y_guy, It’s like sex with or without condoms … both are unsafe. Abstinance is best. Whoa! That’s even more appropo than I planned!
@D:S:The only people who’d get hurt are the ones who committed the crime.
I disagree as per LJ(even if illegal)…
@El:Legalize it and you increase another group of victims… wives, girlfiends and significant others(Never let it be siad that I wasn’t trying to be inclusive/PC here.) Even if you leave out the STDs, you’ve got a group who cannot trust government to help them maintain the commitment in their relationships. Of course, there are different levels of commitment. How about contracts drawn up between wives/girlfriends/significant others and husbands/boyfriends/s.o.?
…though I’d have to hear more of the contract solution.

RE: Ethics Rounds
Damn, F_alk! :o
You freaking wrote what I thought as I read c_c_'s post. :-?
This is frightening! I must be developing personal logical morality.
Ee-yuck!
Wait a minute…I think I forgot to take my meds this morning.
No, my little SAT. MORN. slot in my weekly pillbox is MT. Jeez, morals & logic!?!
I need some duct tape for my head. If my head explodes the doctors will have all the pieces. :wink:No, really it’s 8) .

Happy Math v Terrorism
We often argue here about ratios, statistics and(my favourite)percentages. I found this article showing that terrrorists/terrorism is losing the numbers game, especially when we don’t let them frighten us.
Source:
http://www.arabnews.com/Article.asp?ID=26801Of course, terrorism is changing form as we speak, but those fighting it seem to be a little ahead of the curve now…trying to restrict access to WMD and components for rogue states and terrorist groups.
What else might be done?
