• If a land zone with a fort on a border is attacked across that border and another one without a fort, how would this play out?

Example: alsace getting attacked from Picardy and Bavaria at the same time

I would assume that if attacked only from picardy that no bonuses would apply but wasn’t sure what protocol should be if attacked from both.

  • You are right that the fortifications only protect the border they are on and can therefore be flanked.

If the attack comes from two different territories, then the fortification’s first strikes should only hit the enemy units coming from the fortified border.

As for the defense bonus to defending units, it applies « to all other land units in the zone », so I would tend not to make the distinction.

  • @noneshallpass That is correct, and even if a bomber just files over the border. When you set up your attacks, make sure to take this into account.

  • @Noneshallpass @Trig Thanks fellas. Well it would seem that a diversionary frontal assault may possibly hurt a flanking force, as a pose to providing some extra bodies. Basically if one intends to perform a flanking maneuver against a zone w/ a border fort, they should be sure to being enough to get the job done themselves. Yes the maneuverability of aircraft should make this easier in most cases.

@jbuckbuddy As a result forts are pretty expensive unless there is only one border or choke point. They only seem to make sense in a few very limited situations (like maybe Transcaucasia).

  • @sjelso They are definitely units that shine in specific situations. One thing to remember is that on islands, cities or Malaya, a fort protects all borders. In that case, they are superb.
Other chokepoints could be the Russian font. If you look, you can fortify Smolensk, and then build a line across the Northern section. The south is not the best, but it can work. Other short fronts include bengal or burma, or a defense of France in Normandy or Northern Loraine.

You are evil and I never want to play you, Trig! So clever!
