Uhm, you do know there is a Destroyer and Cruiser in SZ 12, right?

Maybe on Germany 2 you would have a chance, assuming the Italian fleet came up to SZ 13.  Might be interesting for Italy to go for it, if England’s working with America against Japan and neither are really paying much attention to Italy. (Lots of people who talk a lot about the game do that because they don’t have the experience of how bad of a headache Italy really can be if you don’t dedicated almost 100% of England in destroying it early!)

  • What Jennifer said: How do you get your transport past those surface ships?
    You cant ignore them.

Ya could if they were worthless submarines though. :P

  • Sorry you all are correct there is a bit of a UK fleet in the way.  So G1 wouldn’t work.  G2 however depending on board conditions it would be possible.

    Same for Italy two.

    Now here’s a scary thought:

Italy with Brazil, an Industrial Complex, Improved Industry and Paratroopers.

    WEG

  • you cold pull it off G2 if you can spare the transport, and if your u-boats shut down the Americans enough that they cant take it back

  • Seriously Jenn. No Italian player in their right mind would waste money on techs.

  • I don’t see why the Brazil is not used more by the US player.  In our games US almost always moves to Brazil Turn 1 and uses it for a staging area for the rest of the war.  It’s two spaces from Northern Africa, Southern Africa and France.  There would be no way the Germans could take Brazil, and hold it let alone us it for an invasion of the US if this strategy is used.

That sound all well and good but it mens that you’re making the east coast itself much more vulnerable to invasion

Because America’s usually trying to push Japan back and hope to reclaim some Islands and deny the Japanese those National Objectives.  At least in my experience.

  • In the last game we played, Germany took Brazil; however, it was not a deal breaker. The Allies ignored it. Should have put an IC there!!

  • I personally ususally do that as Germany or Italy.  It takes away 3 IPCs and is one of the few places where you can hurt US production.

  • @a44bigdog:

I voted maybe as I have not give it much thought. I really would rather take a stab at Egypt.

And a + 1 Karma for thinking out of the box.

So do we send -1 Karma because he n00bed it up  :-D

  • Even, if it is not possible on G1, it opened up a nice discussion on the topic of taking Brazil and people are sharing their experiences.

  • Definetely worth a shot, if axis are able to get out of the med unharmed… I do like the idea of diverting the US player’s attention - sort of similar to a Japanese invasion of Alaske. A funny thought would be a german IC in Brazil, a couple of bombers and fighters to boost, combined with a Japanese landing,  and all of the sudden you would have a very concerned US player. Remains to bee seen if it is worth the effort, but I would like to try it out.

  • Tactic: Brazil declaration of war.

As the US, I generally build an IC in Brazil turn 1
On the next turn, a single transport, 1 infantry and 1 tank
By third turn, this complex is dedicated to transport 2 units to Africa.

The transport being in the far south atlantic does not need escort, short of Germany moving bombers in France or fighters in Africa. ( But you can see it coming way ahead. )

Does not look like much but this strategy pretty much stopped Italy’s African adventure in all the games I played and did not require a massive fleet.

Oh, another thing, knowing i can bring troops this way in Africa, if I see Germany transport alone and taking Egypt turn 1, I always sacrifice UK bomber to sink it no matter what, and land in Persia. It might looks like 12 ipc for 7 ipc is a loss but Germany can’t rebuild that transport anytime soon.

  • get a factory there and then strat bomb the USA

  • I’d typically be using that transport for shuffling troops into Africa.  Maybe if after a few turns the transport just so happened to be close enough, and the US just so happened not to have anything in strike range, then maybe.  Other factors will dictate if it’s just a hit-and-run or committing to an IC.  Either way, expect to get hit hard, Monroe Doctrine style.  A Brazilian IC might just be giving yourself a poison pill  :-P.

It’s pretty rare for Germany not to station a bomber in France, especially since it will force you to spend money on additional covering fleet, while still being in range of the Russian front and North Africa

  • Yea but even from France, it still forces the German bomber to land in Africa if you hit the southern Atlantic. We talking of shuffling troops trough Sea zone 22 and 23 here.

This means German cannot even land in Moroco Algeria or Egypt if operating from France. The only way to hit that US transport from France is to land in central Africa. That scenario is not likely to happen since you are shuffling troops in central Africa.

From game experience, that US transport is pretty much safe unless German Bomber is based in Egypt ( Or Algeria but I don’t see a German Bomber live long there ). If the German bomber happens to be in Egypt ( or Algeria ), well, the transport can rejoin the main fleet in one turn at Gibraltar sea zone 12 to drop in Algeria ( killing it if it’s there). Or simply go in Pacific if it’s needed there.

Also, at worst, you still can pop in Brazil whatever you need to protect it from a lone bomber if you really want to keep at it. In short, it’s too far for Germany to really be able to do anything worthwhile to prevent you from landing in Africa. Yet, 1 tank, 1 infantry per turn will make sure you hold Africa as long you sink German Transport with UK bomber if they went for Egypt G1.
