      Assuming anyone is still wondering, HBG has put their wrong color pieces up for sale, at blow-out prices: $2.50 to $2.00 for a set of 10 pieces, twice the usual amount. The wrong color sets came in for Axis Minors in German Grey and Italian Brown, Russia Early War in Russian Maroon, Japanese Sets 1 and 2 in Burnt Orange, and Neutral sets in Blue, Green, and Grey. Links below, and happy hunting!

      @Cornelius:

      No idea, but QC on base set pieces was about 2-3 weeks during the holidays, so I would think no longer than that.

      I hope it’s only 2-3 weeks.

      @simon33:

      Hmm, interesting analysis. Germany has to really stretch to pull in the 24 inf too.

      If a G1 buy of 3mech 3arm where done, it seems to be negative.

      What happens when the more usual move of a I2+G3 DOW is done? If the Germans don’t buy fast movers G1, that is what I expect anyway.

      Interesting. I had no idea that 6 tanks could potentially make East Poland not stackable…and if Germany buys mechs/tanks G1 in anticipation to bolster it, that prevents them from buying more ships for Sealion.

      This is the build that helped us win our first game at YG’s tournament as the allies, and almost always my build with Russia.

      Follow up round two with FULL mechanized.  Your force can hold/delay leningrad unless the germans are heavily organized and determined to take it.  Usually this can buy you an extra round or two depending on what the germans are doing, whilst you evacuate your infantry.

      Also note that, as a weight-saving measure, battlecruisers sometimes carried fewer main gun turrets than battleships.  British practice in the first two decades of the 20th century was to build battlecruiser counterparts to each battleship class, typically with fewer main guns, lighter armour, greater length and so forth.

      @bgugs:

      They look awesome. I am trying to do almost the exact same order but am trying to break it down by nation to spread the cost out over time (I am a college student so money is tight right now)

      Yeah, the costs can certainly pile up, especially since HBG has stopped selling some of the sets, forcing you to buy 5 of each piece at a higher price per piece.

      I haven’t played 1942.2, but for me the famed viability of a KJF strategy is a huge draw over AA50 (which I have played).

      In the Gamemaster edition, Revised*, AA50**, and 42 1st edition all require a KGF strategy for optimal Allied play.  This makes 1942 2nd edition a very new experience to entice me with.

      I have not played G40 2nd edition yet (only 1st edition).  I understand that is also a KJF game, so for those of you who play that, perhaps KJF is less of a lure.  I have also not played A&A: 1941, and have no idea as to the correct strategies there.

      The minor victory scenario (8 cities) entailed a balanced Allied strategy for a strong defense in India.  But I never tried a full blown KJF.  I haven’t looked at that game for as long time, but I would tend to think Germany wins the game if the Allies go KJF in a minor victory setting.

      ** I have only played the 1941 scenario (with NOs), and cannot attest to the other variations.

      @calvinhobbesliker:

      It seems that the US only gets 20 infantry pieces, but the setup and reinforcement charts have a total of 22 American infantry. In addition, all the countries seem to have lots of extra artillery pieces that will never come into play. Am I missing something in the rules, or are these artillery pieces just extra? I understand the extra German infantry and tanks and extra American tanks since stacks with chips may split up, but the American and German artillery and the British tanks and artillery are all separate in the setup/reinforcement charts and so would not need extras.

      You have a “normal” set. The pieces supplied do not exactly match the charts and setup. As noted you’ll have two infantry removed from the board well before you get to their spot on the chart.

      @ShadowHAwk:

      Well since you have to take odds a 75% odds is pretty decent though.

      The 25% when you lose is more devastating, cumulatively, than the 75% when you win.  In the 75% when Allies win, Axis usually does well enough that Italy can easily mop up in 97 and avoid getting convoyed.  The tuv loss to Axis can be small to none when we take the counter into account, although a successful 97 attack constrains Italy strategically.  But in the 25% when Allies lose, that’s a devastating defeat for Allies and hard to recover from.

      It’s hard for Allies to bring enough material that there isn’t a good argument for an Axis scramble.  Still, if you bring 8-9 units (including the ac) then that might be scary enough that Axis won’t want to take the risk and prefer to wait till G2 for a (comparatively) low-risk counter.

      If germany does 110 without the BB but with 1 sub 3 figs 3 tacticals 1 bomber they also got 80% of winning if the UK scrambles. Would you take the 20% odds as allies? Why would the axis take 20% odds and be considered smart.

      Mostly yes, because the tuv exchange would be more favorable to Allies.  But in some cases UK might need to hold back (especially if 111 is a better scramble option).   There’s more upside to the 97 scramble with those odds because Axis wants to prevent the Allied convoy.

      BTW, what happened to FMG? Is it really true that their Chinese factory shut down and stole all the molds?

      In short, yes that’s basically what happened and began the hard fall.

      They’re still around but they no longer do direct to consumer and I Will Never Grow Up has taken over their product lines (Even the FMG website links back to our webstore instead).

      (Long story short, FMG is now a wholesale distributer/R&D/Manufacturing point of contact, IWNGU is the exclusive retailer of their product).

      It’s the same reason why China doesn’t have its own fighter or artillery. They were just being cheap which is why I bought five artillery and the old p40 from the original AnA and painted them Chinese Green.
