    • RE: HBG's French set… any news?

      @AlphaKappa:

      Any updates?  I saw that HBG was promising a preorder “in a few weeks”, “next week”, etc. on Facebook, but haven’t seen any links either there or on their website.  Did I miss it, or has it not happened yet?

      Not too surprising given that some of their Japanese pieces have been out of stock since January of this year.

      @Erocco:

      The wrong colored ones were in about a month ago.

      Were they sold on the website? I can’t find them under Japanese pieces.

      @Erocco:

      I was holding off completing on an order as I wanted to add some of the Japanese pieces I am missing. I gave up as it was taking to long. I asked Doug and apparently the pieces are in but he has do some work assorting them, putting them on the website etc.

      When he said the pieces were in, did he mean the wrong color ones or the correct ones? And how long ago was this?

    • HBG Japanese Pieces

      Does anyone know when HBG is going to have their Japanese pieces (Paratrooper, Light Carrier, Big Artillery, etc.) back in stock? They said the factory printed them in the wrong color a few months ago, but even those wrong color pieces aren’t being sold on the website, even though HBG said they would be.

    • RE: Thinking of 1942.2 buy?

      @Nowhere:

      I see a question about if he should buy 1942.2 and everyone jumps in and tells him to buy Global.

      1942 and Global are completely different animals… it’s like if I had a Camaro and asked if I should keep it or get a Firebird (assuming they still existed in production) and everyone chimed in that I should just buy a Lambrogheni… whoa, whoa, whao, completely different thing here.

      Imho, 1942 to 1942.2 is mostly about updated sculpts and a few map changes, but the difference isn’t huge… really you just need to ask yourself if the cost is worth it to you for very minor changes (to some it would be).

      If you’re looking for a different gaming experience,  sure there is Global, which is a huge step up in complexity, map size and most of all, time commitment… go for it if that’s your thing, but it’s a lot different than the scale and time commitment of 1942… there is a middle ground upgrade that is more involved than 1942 but less than Global and that’s Anniversary edition which I’m surprised nobody mentioned as an option… I might recommend that as your choice if you want something similar to 1942 but not as drastic a change as Global.

      This thread is from early 2017, when Anniversary hadn’t been reprinted yet.

    • RE: Anniversary Map?

      @robert:

      Two things I thought was odd about North America was the lack of the fifth Great Lake (Lake Ontario) and placing our national capital where Quebec City is located. :-(

      It is like placing Washington DC in South Carolina/Paris in Amsterdam or Berlin in Warsaw.

      Tokyo and Honolulu are also wrong.

    • RE: How to counter Dark Skies+J1 attack?

      @Caesar:

      @ShadowHAwk:

      @Caesar:

      @hcp:

      @Arthur:

      Add in that most attacks against Moscow are happening on G4+, and it doesn’t have nearly as much impact as additional units to swing key battles during the first round.  An extra 20 PUs of bid results in an additional 20+ PU swing in net battle casualties, leading to a 40+ swing of units in key areas, leading to 60+ swing of units by the fifth turn.

      AB Harris: might I ask where are those first round key battle areas that the bid can offer such large PU swings?  I can only identify North Africa sub+Tank+2 art to have such large effect.

      If I have 40 bid, where should I put the 20 additional bid to counter patient Dark Skies + J1 attack?

      I think the only thing with the J1 would be giving the Red Army East an offensive ability against Japan by liberating Chinese territories forcing Japan to rely even more on transports and thus navy making them more able to be sunk by US. As for dark skies, I can’t see anything beyond more infantry and artillery unless the other solution is to give the Northern Red Army more offensive ability to get Finland and Norway which is 6 dollars of Spread of Communism on top of 5 dollars for both territory value.

      How about add 1 mech to burma for india.

      Against dark skies the allies just need a bit more fleet to call the bombers out. Attack and you trade your bombers dont attack and ill invade you.

      The one mech is a good idea too as I would instantly use that to get over to Persia and bring them into the fight.

      I don’t think you can use a mech to activate 2 pro-allied territories in a row.

    • RE: GERMAN P.1003 VTOL HBG

      @bgugs:

      I have an order ready for German pieces that I want, but this one is missing. It is one of the 3D printed pieces. Does anybody know how often these get restocked?

      Probably less often than their battle pieces, which can take a couple of months to restock.

      @Cornelius:

      No idea, but QC on base set pieces was about 2-3 weeks during the holidays, so I would think no longer than that.

      I hope it’s only 2-3 weeks.

      Restock Japanese pieces are in quality control as of last week if I am not mistaken. Waiting for paratroopers myself.  :-)

      Yeah, I saw that too. Do you know how long it takes between QC and them being in stock?

    • Fitting A&A, HBG, and FMG Pieces into Ozimek's Tuck Box Inserts

      I had to use multiple trays for some nations, but I managed to fit and organize all my pieces into the boxes!

    • RE: Portable Piece Storage Tips?

      @RABIDFOX50:

      The Plano 3500 Pro Latch tackle trays are a great size for housing each nation’s pieces as well as the roundals. I use six of them as well as a 3700 Pro Latch for my Anniversary edition game. The larger tackle tray fits the IPCs, dice, chips and ICs / AA guns nicely. Plano even has a small tackle bag that you can carry them.

      Yeah, I’m thinking of getting Plano boxes. Would it be possible to fit 8 of them in the 2 game boxes? I think I can fit 2 in each box, and I would like to stack them 2 on top of 2 per box, but I can’t tell if that would fit. If two such Plano boxes stacked won’t it, are there thinner versions that will?

      HBG had indicated at the end of December on FB that a restock of Japanese pieces was coming soon.

      Hmm, well hopefully it won’t take too long then…

    • RE: Cliffside Bunker Battle Dice (UPDATED)

      @robert:

      Actually, if you look at proper dice, the “1 pip/dot” is drilled deeper than the “six pips/dots” so that all have the same amount of material removed.
      If you look at “chinese” dice, they have a larger “1 pip/dot” to offset the “6 pips/dots”
      The weight difference may be minimal, but it does affect the results.

      This will be apparent when “lightly” rolling dice as compared to a more aggressive fling.

      This is why serious gamers use backgammon or vegas quality dice. It ensures a proper randomness in rolls.

      I don’t think normal dice (such as regular A&A dice) have a 1 pip that’s 6 times as deep as each of the 6 pips.

      @Loose:

      I have been also waiting for some of those items, especially the escort carriers…I sure hope HBG would these back in stock.    I thought I read a post awhile back that they should have more pumpkin items in November?..

      I think they did restock in November or December, but somehow all the pumpkin orange versions of those 7 units were bought, leaving plenty of the other colors.

      They look etched into the dice.
      Won’t that throw off the balance?
      The unetched sides will be slightly heavier now.
      Otherwise, great idea.

      By that argument, rolling a 1 on a normal die is more likely than rolling a 6.

    • RE: Bombing airfield G1 to prevent scramble?

      @SS:

      You should have rule in game where Tac Bombers can only SBR an Airbase. Airbase AAA gun gets a shot at each Tac Bomber 1:1  and if any AAA misses then the Tac Bomber rolls for damage and any 3 (4?) or more damage roll the defending figs cannot scramble.

      Wouldnt this give Germany a bit more chance of winning the game by going sea lion more ? What I mean is how much would it help Germany If UK couldnt scramble those 3 figs ?
      Would it help to counter GHG US naval build he has proposed in another thread ? Just asking.

      It makes no sense that bombing an airfield would prevent scrambling or intercepting by fighters which would happen before the bombing, especially in a country that had a good radar defense system.
