There it was, the final blow.

Moscow was a massive failure, with incredible dice for you. But it was a 60% battle only, and my last chance for anything in this game, so it was a shot I had to take.

I was bested by the better player. Nothing more to say about that.

Congratulations on your win! Good luck in the semi-final.

    Arathorn.

I have regretted SO many moves I’ve made this game. I wish I could have brought my A-game, but I was in a mix of creative, conservative, too fast and over-reaching. I was punished by it. I will learn from my mistakes.

    All the best to you

    Arathorn

  • wow I came out like 10 units ahead, that was pretty lucky  :-o

I made my fair share of mistakes too and thought pretty long about to take the russian gambit or not.  I’m sure you knew I could have made it under about a 40-45% battle for russia if I really wanted, but decided to try and draw this game out economically and let you have russia at fairly high losses.  I also hoped you’d commit with the japanese so I could wrap that up too since it was somewhat of a suicide attack that would have left me 7 fighters left on average to head to russia.

Had you taken russia with an tank and about 9-10 air left, it would have probably dragged the game out another 8+ rounds before anything conclusive could be reached but I would have had a big unit advantage already on the board plus double the ipcs.

Pretty good game and as always came down to a big battle where dice decided it.  I always thought this game between two good players was just a coin flip

    Thanks for the game.

Yes ;) That was pretty lucky. But it was a 60%, so you should win 4/10 of those.

    Thanks for the game.

You are way too generous with this statement. You were much better than me in this game. A coinflip would only be appropriate between players like yourself and Gamerman and Allweneed. ;)

Thank you for the game. I hope you have lots of fun in the rest of the tournament!

I watched the game closely and to me one conclusion is that a J3 rush to Calcutta is toxic against a KJF US and 18 Russian Inf in Amur. Right now it seems to me that in this setup Japan has to play cautiously and try to hold the position as long as possible, focus on keeping China controlled and rely on the fact that defending is easier than attacking. Can be annoying for US to make progress against defending carriers + Kamikaze.

I think the rest is up to the Germans then which should have some options with no US harassment.

thanks to both of you, was a pleasure watching your game.

    Cheers!

  • I don’t think the move against india was good/bad either way.  I always thought the main issue is keeping the usa out of war for as long as possible

imho japan really needs a couple turns to secure everything because if the allies go for killing japan first, it is VERY hard to stop and even worse if the usa enters early.  I know a lot of people probably think japan is a juggernaut but from my experience it is easily crippled.  the only issue is what germany does in the meantime while you squeeze japan

ps the game was fairly close, so don’t sell yourself short.  had russia gone the other way and you won with +10 units it would have been very problematic and eventually would have come down to another big battle to decide the game.  I do think if you took russia with “average” results I probably could have won in the longer run through attrition.
