I am taking damage to my 2 bsh and 3 of my carriers.
I don’t want to assume your OOL since your planes have no safe landing zone if you damage your carriers.
Can’t they land in french indo china?
Japan seized it this turn and all combat is simultaneous, I don’t think that is possible.
The rules say the planes attempts to land occur at the start of NCM before the acting player does his/her NCM.

If that carrier is destroyed or damaged in combat, they must try to land on a different friendly carrier in the same sea zone, move one space to a friendly carrier or territory, or be destroyed. This movement occurs during the Noncombat Movement phase, before the acting player makes any noncombat movements” (pg. 29)
If you thought the planes could land in FIC whether or not Japan invaded FIC, I guess I can cancel my invasion of FIC.
I would point out though, it wouldn’t make any sense for the planes to land during combat since they would then be defending twice, once at sea and once at land.
OK I see now that you can take FIC (Yikes!). How about if you roll and I will call OOL.
OK so for that first roll I will lose 2 destroyers, 3 cruisers, 1 carrier, 1 tac, 1 ANZAC fig. That makes 9 I think.

I was a little confused. But even at Midway, I would have blocked SZ16 unless you built a naval base.
I probably would have attacked SZ36 no matter what the US did just to make sure none of those planes could reinforce Russia or naval units threaten Italy.
