  • I love that this game pivots on the head of a pin; it never plays the same twice.

    This is the first time I’ve seen Japan in the Red Sea on turn 5.

    I’m glad I didn’t take Sealion. This has been a very entertaining game with a bunch of brain-wrenching decisions that we wouldn’t have had if 13 transports drove into the Channel.

  • Well, you can’t make this stuff up. Check out the battles of Bryansk and Smolensk… not every day a 50% chance to lose one fighter turns into triple snake eyes. It doesn’t get much more painful.

    As far as Russia’s dmamge to Moscow’s IC, I edited out 2 IPCs off the top of Russia’s economy, then paid the other 5 the normal way.


  • They’re there more for to give you pause and to soak a couple hits rather than actually be expected to do their primary job. That’s pretty crazy, though.


  • Anytime any Italians can kill any Soviets, leadership back in Berlin feels better about propping up the government in Rome… I was actually hoping you’d attack those guys and they could kill 4-5 infantry that they otherwise wouldn’t have any opportunity to kill. The planes, well, that’s just dumb luck.


  • You figure there’s a 41% chance of hitting exactly once. About 8.5% chance of hitting exactly twice, and about 0.5% chance of hitting all three times. A 5 IPC piece takes out 6 IPC worth of planes if it gets to fire all 3 times.

    If it was always that ratio, it’d be easier to predict – it’s so squirrely how you can go a whole game without a hit on an AA and you can lose 2 strats to an IC, or 3 fighters to a single AA gun. I think it’s the absolute best argument for low luck. Low luck on AA just adds all the pips and gives you a remainder roll. 12 planes vs 4 AA guns = you lose 2, call it day, and that’s that.


  • At the end of the day, sir - you put your AA guns on the front, so you created your own opportunity for luck. My whining is over!  8-)

    Yes to your strategy with the Italians - they exposed a lot of Russians to the Smolensk kill zone. But I attacked them because it takes away the ability for Italy to can-open on the front. I’m a big believer that as Russia, every Italian piece killed on the front is worth more than they seem - without Italy, Germany becomes more monolithic and predictable - particularly Germany’s mechanized forces. Without Italy, Russia can constantly put out one infantry army as a screen.

    Anyhow, I’m pretty happy those two Italian AA guns are being hauled back to Moscow right now to be resmelted into artillery tubes. The Reds will need all the help they can get…  :-D
