In SZ34 Japan opened with a roll of 3.  That would let the Allies either sink the carrier and lose 1 fighter or damage the carrier and lose 2 fighter.

Since the first option would allow Japan to retreat and have the American fighter simply crash into the ocean (job done, no risk), I assumed you would pick the second option where at least you got to fire the carrier again.

In SZ34 Japan opened with a roll of 3.  That would let the Allies either sink the carrier and lose 1 fighter or damage the carrier and lose 2 fighter.

Since the first option would allow Japan to retreat and have the American fighter simply crash into the ocean (job done, no risk), I assumed you would pick the second option where at least you got to fire the carrier again.
