      @knp7765:

      What game are you talking about? Is it A&A 1941?

      If so, then you are right. There is a lot less IPC value yet the units cost the same with the exceptions of carriers and battleships. WOTC designed it this way to help make the game simpler and have a shorter playing time to hopefully get new people into playing Axis and Allies. Since everyone has less money to spend, the Purchase phase goes quicker. With less units on the board, it’s much easier to keep track of what and who’s units are where. Also, it makes the Combat phase go quicker because there are less units in each combat. So, to keep this game short and simple, the unit costs should be left as they are.
      You should get this game. It really is fun and a nice change from the bigger, more complex games. Personally, I would get at least 2 copies: one for playing and the second for extra pieces. You only get 2 destroyers per nation and you usually need more, especially for UK battling those pesky German U-boats. Either that, or go to HBG and see if you can get whatever pieces you want individually.

      Yeah I was referring to 41’ it got moved to House Rules.

      Think of every tt with an IPC value as having an infantry “depot”. The limit raised per turn based on the IPC value is reasonable.

      But in the long term (and I’m thinking in particular of WWI) the number of men of fighting age available in any area is limited. WWI would not have gone on indefinitely; each side would simply have run out of men. Furthermore, the more you try to recruit in a particular area, the quality of troops raised decreases, and resistance to conscription grows.

      Also consider depots as infantry training centres; a unit recruited there receives basic training, say the equivalent of a 1-1 infantry unit.

      Leave it there another turn and it improves to a 1-2 unit, or you might use the turn to train it as storm troopers, paratroopers etc. You have to decide on the value of properly trained units against the immediate need for troops at the front, even if they’re just raw recruits to soak up hits.

      A further refinement is to indicate the nationality of a depot; some nationalities will fight for more than one side, for example Romanian units might be raised by Germany or Russia depending on who controls Bucharest.

      Units starting the game can be assumed to be fully trained, those raised from scratch start as raw. You can even consider some casualties to be wounded, and needing to be sent back to the depots for recuperation.

      The only scenario where I would consider attacking neutrals is if I had a big army (either Axis or Allies) that needs to go through Turkey and isn’t mobile enough to go around Turkey.  I’ve never actually seen that scenario though.

      In general the downside to attacking neutrals is way more significant than any perceived upside.  It’s hard to justify a move that is going to gift 15+ infantry to your opponent.

      Gar,

      ––Yep, exactly. I didn’t want to be too detailed and make the discussion drift off topic. I have read three or more books with “valid” accounts concerning this.

      ----You know, sometimes I (almost) feel “old-school” because I’ve learned most of my military history knowledge through books I’ve bought rather than the internet. I’ve simply never taken the time to “surf” the net like that.

      ----And thank you very much “El Dominatro Magistero” for sharing your knowledge of Island History with us “normal folk”. :-D

      each team puts down a set amount of money. lets say $100 each. thats $200 for the game. the winning team gets the $200. Lets say the axis won. Germany, japan, and italy(if playing global1940)  count out the total number of allied territories captured add the ipc’s they are worth and divide 200 by that number. say germany captured 20, italy 10, and japan 15. so 200/45= 4.44. germany gets 20x4.4= $88.88  italy gets 10x4.44=$44.44 and japan will get 15x4.44=$66.6.    if each player put in $33 or some sort of equivilant to thier starting ipc’s id say they did pretty well. OR they could just split the winnings 3 ways each player gets $66.6.

      Plus you could use the money during the game if you wanted.

      @knp7765:

      Of course, it also says you can’t collect income, but I’m pretty sure that is just the normal income from your controlled territories.  That doesn’t include plundering an enemy capital.  That money should stay in your account until your capital is liberated.

      Correct.  Plundered IPCs are not income, as they are not collected in the Collect Income phase.

      I apologize in advance if this has been brought up before.

      I was thinking and what about this. This will be better to do if London falls due to Sealion. Anyways here’s my idea. Have the US navy guard the ANZAC’s while they build transports and units (US should still be building mainly in the east though.) The British should send most of their units to Persia, and be building mech infantry to run up to Shan State. Try to make sure the US navy secures the water near Southeast Asia so Japan doesn’t start reinforcing that area with transports. Then after the Japanese attack send some British units west to help against Italy (assuming these will be your last reinforcements for a little bit if the income is gone,) and slow down and weaken the Japanese with the rest (the US should reinforce this water area now.) Once Japan captures India have an Australian force hit of transports and units that should be collecting Dutch islands if possible as well, but still being guarded by the US navy. Then unload and start taking these British territories for themselves and then unload a few dudes to West India, but leave Calcutta alone. This way if ANZAC is getting all the Indonesian islands they will be making an income of 42 IPCS (10 in ANZAC territories, 15 in Indonesia, 7 from other British territories, and 10 from NO’S.) This way ANZAC can start building nice navies to the US can pay more attention to Germany and Italy (hophelly ANZAC can defend it’s territories quick enough though

      I own a copy of the game.  As with a lot of games, I bought it for the pieces.  The troop pieces are disappointing because their plastic isn’t very compatible with A&A: the plastic has a glossy, semi-translucent appearance, and the colour shades don’t work well in my opinion.  The British-looking pieces with pith helmets have some usefulness as colonial troops. One unexpected bonus, however, is that the little grey triumphal arches work nicely as markers for A&A victory cities.

      @ABWorsham:

      You guys have high regards for the Italian Armies.

      The Italian war effort can be described as a failure. Italy had only one main front to fight taking on enemies that have many fronts to contend with. The battles of 1915-17 showsed little progress, 1917 the rout of Caporetto.

      Only when Austria-Hungary was at the point of revolution could the Italian Armies have large sucess.

      I agree.  But the Italians had more divisions and ships engaged with the enemy at any one time than the USA had during the entire conflict.

      You also have to consider that the “Alpine Front” was one of the most difficult and geographically challenging of the entire war.

      We haven’t tried this in global but my dad tried it in Europe. It worked really well against russia but the lack of pressure on Britain let them take all of Italy’s land in Africa. After that I build a minor in Egypt and started send tanks to Russia who had fallen back to Moscow and Stalingrad 3 turn after Britain sent tanks there was British armor in Moscow after that the German lost there hope of wining.

      I know that land industries have limits like W. US is 10, but does it count when your placing ships, like can you place over 10 ships to an adjacent sea zone?

      The unit limit applies to all types of units.
