    Specifically, Japan can load in SZ36 if it DOWs despite the UK destroyer.

    I didn’t notice it until now, but I am guessing you placed it to block loading.

    Hmmmm, no I was not aware of the exception for DOWs…. damn. That was that destroyers intention. Mind moving it over to SZ76? If not, he’ll gladly be a martyr for the cause :P.

    Certainly I’ll move it.

    It’s a weird exception and only applies during the turn of the declaration.

    Also, just to clarify, a Japanese transport that starts outside of SZ36 wouldn’t be able to load in SZ36 if Japan DOWs against UK.  Only the transports that start within a SZ that turns hostile at the start of the powers turn are effected by the exception.

    I don’t have the rules handy right now to give you the page reference for a better wording, but I am sure it’s somewhere in the FAQ.

    On a related strategy note: If you NCM the UK destroyer to SZ36, then have ANZAC declare war, that will block Japan from loading because SZ36 would turn hostile on ANZAC’s turn.  Of course, attacking Japan prematurely delays US entry into the war, so you might not want to do that, but it could be useful.  Also, to stop Japan from loading the men in Siam, you need an additional UK ship for SZ37.


  • Good points. I found it after you mentioned it. It’s in a blue box under “Declaring War” on page 11. I thought I’d scoured the rule book pretty good before I did that move… ah well, always miss something :P. Good to know for my future Japan play. I’d always kept the transports loaded just in case someone did that to me. And yeah, delaying the US entry is nowhere to be found on my to-do list :).
