• The problem was that USA built too many heavy bombers that would destroy jpnese fleet. To avoid this Japan did a risky attack on USA west territory and could conquer it, but not maintaining it more than one round. Anyway the bombers where destroyed.

Unfortunately Japan left China unprotected and China became a monster with so may armies that no one else could enter China.

A lesson for USA not to let anything on a transport get within 1 turn distance without properly reacting to it.

And that is basically why China has ACME walls, i suppose

  • We are playing a game now with me as Japan. Originally I was planning on eliminating China. I also took HI round 1. I thought I was doing pretty good, but China proved to be pretty tough. The flying tigers flew north and most of their builds were up there. They would keep 1 infantry between the flying tigers, about 4 infantry and a few artillery. I could not blitz and attack these units and I was not going to trade aircraft for the infantry. I would take the adjacent territory and they would counter attack with all the units defending the flying tigers and normally take the territory back. There new builds were either a single infantry to prevent blitzing or defense of the flying tigers.

I had a lot of trouble closing the burma road since most of my forces were trying to kill China in the North.

I think next time I will build an IC some place close to India where the Chinese cannot attack (Burma?) and basically ignore the Chinese.

Currently I am backed up to the IC I built in Shanghai and most of my money is going to ships and fighters to try and discourage the US (which has become a monster) from invading the homeland. I feel the Pacific is lost, but I am trying to make things difficult to take the pressure off Germany and Italy. I am almost ready to surrender to the allies because the US and UK control the Med at this point.

  • 99.99% of the time, China will never become a monster

  • @nutbar:

99.9% of the time, you won’t lose a battle of 10 jets versus 7 bombers and a radar AA gun

  • Though this is slightly off-topic, at least it’s relating to China.

How big of an impact on the game would allowing China to move and conquer wherever and whatever it wants would make? Of course, they’d still be limited to the mainland except for the Flying Tigers… but still. I just think this would make playing China a bit more interesting, and open up more options. I don’t really care too much about historical accuracy, by the way. I just want to know how this would affect gameplay.

I obviously haven’t tried it, but i think it would pay off for Russia to really help out Cina (in return, once growing in numbers, chinese forces can go to Russia.

But that is just theory. Very well possible that such a thing really wouldn’t pay off.

China helping out India and threatening FIC sounds more realistic. If they get the chance.

  • I think that could definitely break game balance if China was allowed to roam wherever. That could really make things tough for Germany if Russia was bolstered with troops from China.

Could indeed be, but won’t it be too late in the game to really make a difference?

(and if they can do that, doesn’t it also mean that Japan has already lost?)

  • Yeah, but it basically forces Japan to annihilate China, while with current rules Japan can choose to ignore China if it wants.

  • @maverick_76:

Yeah, but it basically forces Japan to annihilate China, while with current rules Japan can choose to ignore China if it wants.

Then it loses 15-20 ipcs. Why do this?

  • Thanks for the responses guys…

I’m thinking of testing this in my next game of Global, with these rules:

-Chinese units may fly over and enter Allied territories on the Pacific board once the owner of the territory is at war with Japan. If the Axis control the said territory and China is at war with that Axis power, China may attack it.
-Chinese units may fly over and enter Allied territories on the Europe board once BOTH China and the owner of the territory is at war with the European Axis powers. If the Axis controls the said territory and China is at war with that Axis power, China may attack it.
-Chinese units may board Allied transports just like any Allied units can enter a transport of an ally.
-China may only build units in originally Chinese territories, with the same limitations as before.

  • As an Idea, what if Japan just ignores China altogehter?  China can basically defend Hong Kong, so Japan misses out on that Victory City and it’s mainland Territories while throughing it’s bulk against U.K. et. al…

    Probably a crazy idea.

It also loses 11 ipcs in original Chinese territories, and 10 more in territories it could have captured if it didn’t ignore china

  • I’m just wondering if the focus on the other countries without having to commit dozens of infantry and PLanes and time on China wold pay off.  I don’t think it will but I am trying to think out side the box.  It is probably best to smash China.

  • The game China became a monster, the axis won the game but were unable to conquer/reconquer chinese territories.

  • I favor killing chinese during turns when my Japanese planes have nothing else to do. To everuthing turn turn turn

  • What if Japan just left China alone and focused its land and air units in China on India instead?

There are 14 IPCs that China can take from Japan, and those can be more than made up for from the the cash islands (Sumatra, Java, etc.).

Since China (and their one fighter) can’t leave Chinese territory, what harm could come of it? There’s not much to gain from China, and you have to spend quite a few IPCs if you want to take it.

  • The problem with ignoring China is the fact that for the first 2-3 turns, Japan will only be at war with China and maybe Russia. It’s better to use the land and air unit to crush China and the Siberian forces until at war with the Allies, rather than retreating onto transports and getting into position to attack the Allies.

  • China should attack SU on 1st turn to put pressure on SU
