    • RE: Can I get a short and concise explanation of strafing?

      Attack the enemy to your advantage, but retreat before capturing the territory.

      Some reason you might do this:

      1. keep your expensive attack units safe from enemy counterattack
      2. weaken a territory so your teammate can capture the ipc’s with less effort
      3. save the surviving units to defend from another attack

      An example would be Germany strafing Yugoslavia on its first turn, so that Italy can get the IPC on its first turn.  Germany can try to knock out 3 or 4 of the 5 neutral infantry, but leave at least 1 infantry as a favor to Italy.  If you retreat the Germans to Romania, the infantry in Greater Southern Germany are now positioned to attack Russia too.

    • RE: Dawgoneit Allies -VS- ShrimpBoatChef Axis

      Hi, I’m new so I’m looking at forum games to learn.  Thanks, it was very fun and interesting.  It seems to me there is an illegal combat move in round 12.

      2 German fighters fly from SZ 112 to attack SZ 91 and then land in SZ 104.  The problem is: there was an enemy destroyer in 104, so there wasn’t a 100% chance of the fighters being able to land.  I know it was 99.99% with the whole German navy moving into 104, but still isn’t that illegal/kamikaze?

    • RE: Alpha 3 rule question. Why can't Japan upgrade to a major IC in Kiangsu?

      @Krieghund:

      It’s the same in Alpha 3 (as well as every other version of AA40) - original control is indicated by the emblem on the territory, not by who controls it at the beginning of the game.

      Thanks, I’m glad to know it is working as intended.  The computer game just shows color, so I’m not sure what you mean by emblem.  Maybe the cardboard game is different.

    • Alpha 3 rule question. Why can't Japan upgrade to a major IC in Kiangsu?

      Basically the title asks my question.  I thought if a territory was originally owned by your nation, and it has an IPC value of 3 or greater, you can put down a major Industrial Complex.

      tripleA won’t let me upgrade Japan’s minor complex in Kiangsu.  It gives no message at all.  I used the time traveler and editor to try placing a brand new major factory and that failed with no error message too.

      Thanks for any help.  I did do my homework and read Larry’s post about Alpha 3, but I didn’t see anything about this.
