hmmm. I thought the current version was okay if spain and sweden both got 6 infantry added on. they can at least survive long enough for help.
-
you got to factor in the possibility that france might not ally spain… i mean it is a disadvantage for france in terms of naval, but he might go to a ground based nation and not care about UK or worse france might ally uk… which means spain = dead.
He at least needs enough inf to say hey austria / prussia go kill france… then at least there is a potential consequence for france.
-
sweden has a different story, he can be invaded by 3 powers with relative ease. So some ground back at home would significantly ease his problem.
-
can a power still invade and conquer him, yes, but the investment is deeper and not on a whim.
-
You should delete that 14 IPCs spanish convoy (I mean, it should be a 4 IPCs convoy) and also the negative NO. It’s ridiculous that gives only 4 IPCs (-10 IPCs NO to ‘balance’ the convoy), but costs 14 if lost :|

yeah some convoy spots have different negative values or none at all… pretty confusing because it doesn’t say on the map.
-
Spain has -10??? That’s stupid.
-
if the convoy is only worth 4, then spain really has very little reason to go navy
the convoy values for spain (and uk, and france) are increased to encourage those nations to go with some navy (or pay the price)
however, I couldn’t think of any way to reduce the income of spain, uk, and france without affecting the land-based play. I would have to reduce the value of too many territories in uk and france in order to keep the incomes at the same level they were previously to convoy increase
and if i just keep the increased value of the convoys without anything offsetting them, then suddenly spain is as rich as france, and france and uk are even more wealthy, which will interrupt the balance of the board quite a bit.
so the solution was, (at least for the single player side of things), to create a negative objective to easily balance things out
spain every turn gets -10 (no matter what [the objective is based on owning your capital])
france gets -6
and uk -4(this is because I increased spain’s convoy by 10 points, france’s 3x convoys by 2 pts, and uk’s 2x convoys by 2pts)
i recommend if you don’t like the idea of having little nations and big nations, and would prefer all nations to basically start equal, then please try my 5-player version
the 5 player version has no negative objectives, and all nations start basically equal in PUs, incomes, and TUV.http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=27773.msg983333#msg983333

if the convoy is only worth 4, then spain really has very little reason to go navy
I disagree with this, Spain needs a navy anyway to fight against UK in Mediterranean sea. Also, even with a value of just 4 (and the french one of 6 if you ally with them), you have incentive to buy boats
If Spain invests just in land, what is going to do, fight France, the last power that Spain would like to fight?
-
I think Spain SHOULD have good moneys in that convoy without the -10.
Maybe reduce that value to 8 IPCs, but Spain need some money as he is in a very bad position (he’s close to the two strongest countries!)
-
alright alright, you’ve convinced me,
the next version of this will have the convoy of spain go down to 8 pu’s, and also slightly reduced territory values in spain, but no negative objective for spain
(the negative objectives for uk and france will stay though)
-
I have a negative objective??? oh man -.-
-
how do I know which one it is??? map no say -.-
-
Really Cow? How many times does Veqr have to spell it out for you?
-
i keep forgetting.
-
it is in the game notes as well.
france has a -6 national objective, that for as long as you control your capital you get -6 every turn in order to balance out the increased values of your 3 convoy zones
uk has a -4 national objective, that for as long as i control my capital, i get -4 every turn, in order to balance out the increased values of my 2 convoy zones
since you will always control your capital (or you won’t be collecting any money anyway), you can’t do anything about it
this is on purposeso just ignore it and play
-
yeah but it no say which one it is.
-
which one what is?
which convoy? it is not based on a convoy, it is based on your capital.
which national objective? it is at the end of your turn summary, and also in the game notes. it is called “balancing convoy objective”.
if it helps, don’t think of it is an objective.
