      @LHoffman:

      @Gargantua:

      I found the tiger portion frustrating.  I felt the Tiger could have easily shifted/braked a single track to maximize it’s turn radius, and that what we observed was just more Brad Pitt has to be a superstar syndrome.

      Seconded! I felt a little let down by it. I wanted the Tiger to be more of a drawn out enemy or challenge rather than some non-descript Boss that they get to defeat in 5 min.

      I think they did a good Job with BoB and the Tiger Scene (even though it was the same Tiger I on a T34 Chassis like in saving Ryan).
      He hidd, striked ,rolled out and cleared the field and retreated with the whole Battalion.
      Lot of things BoB showed was well performed.

      I like Band of Brothers.

      @Gargantua:

      Driving excavation machinery, your tracks are independent.

      And even so, better to “test/pressure” your track in the dirt, than die.

      Yeah with a T34 anytime, not so with a Tiger I&II.
      Bad Tiger commander Garg  :-D. Go get me Wittmann!! 🙂

      @frimmel:

      this month in St. Louis. Fabiano Caruana scored 8.5 out of ten possible points in an elite chess tourney. The six man tourney with the lowest ranked player being number 9 in the world was won in amazing fashion.

      Great article. Thanks for sharing.

      @Redleg13A:

      Or things to gripe about at least lol…sore backs and sore feet are timeless.

      Or, in the case of enlisted men, griping about their NCOs.  In the 1943 movie Sahara, Humphrey Bogart plays a tough, no-nonsense (and occasionally sarcastic) US Army sergeant who’s in command of an American tank in North Africa.  Early in the movie, while proceeding alone across the desert following a hard-fought action, Bogie’s tank picks up an assorted handful of Allied soldiers from a bombed British field hospital: an Englishman, a South African, a British Sudanese, a Free Frenchman, and so forth.  A bit later, two of the enlisted men who are riding on the hull of the tank are having a shouted conversation (because of the noise of the tank engine), and if I recall correctly one of them grumbles, “Why is it that a sergeant is always the same no matter what army you’re in?”

      Allo Allo much hated by the PC brigade - you can’t have a comedy depicting funny fascists.

      Also It Ain’t Half Hot, Mum (British Army in Burma WWII) - reruns not allowed as it depicts “stereotypes” of Indians. The fact that the Brits are also stereotypes doesn’t count of course.

      How does it compare to other aircraft/spacecraft dog-fighting games? Are the minis as decent as the marketing makes them seem?

      @Mallery29:

      Bars? Not so much here in Yokosuka even with the GW and most the Japanese/American support ships in…the 2300 curfew does not help things…most bars close their doors at 2300 now, even on the weekends.

      Once in a while, a few foreign warships – typically on NATO exercises – visit the Port of Montreal.  The sailors probably appreciate the fact that bars here close at 3:00 a.m., even on weekdays.

      I’m lucky enough to have a great view of the Ohio River from my office and this morning I found The LST Memorial Ship docked at the local wharf. I think I’m going to have to take a tour.

      It is somehow both smaller and bigger than I imagined. I think the smaller part is from how it compares to the Mississippi Queen and American Queen when they are docked and the bigger part is that the ship is taller than I’d thought.

      It is pretty big. I really don’t think I need the whole TB but it was on sale and I had $25 bucks in rewards certs from Best Buy so it was pretty cheap compared to even the other 1TB drives and per gig cheaper than the 500GB drives.

      I’m still kind of having trouble wrapping my head around it really. I remember my Dad bringing home those giant serving platter sized ‘floppies’ that were something like 16KB.

      I’m still a little freaked by my 30GB iPod with video.

      @dinosaur:

      With the high quality of the stuff at FMG, I don’t think the US mint would appreciate them making money.

      Okay then we will have to settle for IPC certificates.

      I’ve never done it.

      I can only see one situation when I might want to consider it.  Buy a carrier with two fighters (or use two of the starting fighters the US gets on their base) and pay one supply token to get that carrier onto the main map at the earliest moment.  I can’t see paying $2 to get anything else into the game early.  But getting $7 + $3 + $3 worth of stuff into the game quickly might be worth a look.  It could save a task force that just invaded New Georgia and took heavy losses in sea zone “I” but the ground units did OK.  Those extra two aircraft might make a big difference next turn if you need the ships to provide fire support to defend the counter attack next turn.

      I may just have to look at that.  Turn 1 US takes Guadalcanal, Malaita and Santa Isabel.  Turn 2 US invades New Georgia from sea zone “I” pulling forces from Santa Isabel and Guadalcanal and resupplies Santa Isabel with stuff from Malaita if Japan doesn’t “counter invade” heavy in Santa Isabel from Choiseul.  If somehow the US ships lost many escorts in sea zone “I”, a rapid deployed carrier in “I” or “J” might keep the US navy afloat.
