Question on - Destroyers from "friendly" countries in zone with attacking planes

If it were attempted, what would the general consensus be to add Italy as a playable country to Spring 1942 1st ed?
Obviously the territory would be given to the Italian player as well as different color playing pieces, and perhaps they would receive 3 to 5 IP per turn, but it would add a 6th player, and the more the merrier.
Thoughts? Improvements? Even doable?

I am not a big fan of tripple attacks, unless for a capital. Tripple attacks almost always means that the allies lost many more men than Germany overall. Unless this totally obliterates 70% or more of germany’s forces I tend to just build up and stack off eastern europe when the situation allows for it.

Just so I’m not second guessing myself, if there was a destroyer blocking you, you could still perform an amphibious assault if you aided the transport with fighters, right?

you can always make an amphibious assault with a transport… as long as the attacker wins whatever naval combat occurs in the SZ.  if a Destroyer and a transport attack a SZ for amp assault and there is an enemy destroyer there, combat occurs.  as long as the enemy is sunk, you can continue to amp assault the territory.  If its survives then your transports are sunk as they do not have any combat (or defense) roll.

Not true, the attacking TRN can retreat.

After the combat round is finished, yes it can retreat.

But there are a lot of weird situations: imagine there’s a SZ containing an enemy sub and a destroyer and that you send the transport to make a landing, along with 2 fighters to clear the SZ. Since the enemy sub can’t hit the planes if it rolls a hit on 1 you’ll have to remove the transport as a casualty.

AA50 - Anniversary Edition
AAE40 and AAP40 - Europe 1940 and Pacific 1940 editions (if you have both you can combine them into Global 1940 - that’s the most complex version that you can get).

ok so i’m hearing that you might as well do whatever damage you can with your india fleet, because it’ll either die regardless, or arrive to another theater too late to be of great effect.  sounds reasonable.  in one game i put the india fleet in the med because G didn’t take egypt, and from there i could threaten a (albeit small) landing in southern europe, balkans, or ukraine.  this forced him to keep 3-4 units at least in each of those territories and i found it to be a nice little advantage.  i’m guessing the protip there is that you can be MORE effective/annoying elsewhere with those ships though, huh?

That CAP rule in good old Pacific always remained a mystery to me. As far as I remember you can only use airplanes that didn’t take part in any combat. Now who would let any airplane sitting around doing nothing in combat ?  Japan not using airplanes in her attacks ?  That’s why I never used CAP, not once.
