Iraq After the (Persian Gulf) War (Part II)

  • The puppet government in Iraq has waved the glove in the face of France and Germany. Ayad Allawi, the current head of Iraq’s U.S.-appointed governing council, said he hoped German and French officials would reconsider their decision not to boost their contributions beyond funds already pledged through the European Union.

The Iraqi marionnette Allawi, attending the UN conference attempting to raise funds for Iraq’s reconstruction said… “As far as Germany and France are concerned, really, this was a regrettable position they had.” “I don’t think the Iraqis are going to forget easily that in the hour of need, those countries wanted to neglect Iraq.”

  • Just a comment:
It is the third Persian Gulf War. Just because you didn’t participate in the first doesn’t mean it doesn’t count!

    Apparently not. According to http://www.bartleby.com/65/pe/PersGWar.html

this, the Persian Gulf wars were “two conflicts involving Iraq and U.S.-led coalitions in the late 20th and early 21st cent.”

Also, I take it you refer to the Iran-Iraq war as the first Persian Gulf war-though the US wasn’t involved militarily there, doesn’t mean that it wasn’t involved:

    http://www.zmag.org/zmag/articles/ShalomIranIraq.html

Note: I have yet to finish this second source, as I am almost out of time on the Internet for today.

  • Apparently, it is the third one according to:
    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dritter_Golfkrieg

    an english site of that:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Third_Gulf_War&redirect=no

And for the reason i gave in my previous post, i prefer the international encyclopedia to the US one.

For the involvement, i meant the actual military involvement. If you cont otherwise, then the US probably is involved in 95% of all wars after WWII, and then i could take up again the claim that the US is the most warmongering nation on this planet.

  • Another link on the same site says that the 90-91 Gulf War is either the First or Second Gulf war.

    @F_alk:

    What post was that?

Probably, if we’re talking about current events.

  • I’d say the Iran-Iraq war isn’t called the Persian Gulf War because it only involved two countries. We can’t call the first Gulf war the “Iraq vs USFRANCEUKSAUDIARABIAKUWAITTURKEYGERMANYITALY” war.

True, but I’d be more inclined to call the Iran-Iraq war a Gulf war and the first Gulf war the second, but not the current war, because Iraq only has one major port on the Gulf. But I guess Persian Gulf war II sounded better to the media, or someone.

oh, i’m pretty certain that it involved more than two countries (cia cough cough)

  • US is the most warmongering nation on this planet.

    DAMN RIGHT IT IS!

you say that like its a bad thing

we already covered that, but yeah.

  • Don’t you mean…

    (Cough!)CIA(cough!)?!?

    RE: The war titles…

I beleve it has been determined that sequels sell better.
Thus, PGI, PGII & PGIII( see topic “Movies.”) :)
