    Gah you weren’t supposed to take Moscow until G7… my second really big error that might cost me the game (although you could probably list more ;) ).


  • At first, I thought this was some sort of elaborate trap (you have played very well overall) - in part thinking that yeah, I can get Russia…losing it one round ahead of plan isn’t the end of the world - depending on what all those Russians end up doing.

    However - being able to take out 3 airplanes (and, for the most part, all of Russia’s last purchase) I am sure was not in the plans.

    You sure are making life difficult for Japan…I am wondering if I should have just let Russia have the north…learning some nice allied strategies though…!

    That was the only trap I’ve laid so far you’ve fallen for.  But it wasn’t a game-breaking one, especially since the early loss of Moscow wipes out whatever gains I could have had from that.


  • Well- I couldn’t pass up the shot at the 21 bucks AND killing 3 Russian planes in the process. Trap or no trap, if I lose because of it, I will still say it was the right thing to do…plus - it knocks that complex down to a minor - so only 3 units a turn will appear for Russia.

    Now - if I can figure out what to do with Japan…I’ve had to stop myself a few times from falling into one of your traps - it appears that with all pressure on them, Japan just cannot stop everything coming at them at once…

    The trap was getting you to chase the Russian stack up north into what is about to be an unimportant area of the game board.  Being under-strength to stop the Italian attack was just a disaster; I really needed those planes to help cinch the deal in China.  I’m maybe 2 turns behind where I should be vis-a-vis Japan since I didn’t catch the fact that you could strafe my fleet in the North Pacific.  My expectation was that if you attacked, you would go all-in figuring you would survive the counter.


  • My first reaction was to go all in. Then - after realizing all your bombers could hit me as well, I backed off.

    I was probably jaded into attacking Russia. I got creamed one game when Russia and the US landed there. In hindsight- letting Russia have Korea isn’t as bad as it seems - since they cannot build a complex there - unlike the US that is….

    Going to be interesting to see if (how) I get Japan to survive for awhile…proving that taking Russia does not equal a win…

    I was probably jaded into attacking Russia. I got creamed one game when Russia and the US landed there. In hindsight- letting Russia have Korea isn’t as bad as it seems - since they cannot build a complex there - unlike the US that is….

    Going to be interesting to see if (how) I get Japan to survive for awhile…proving that taking Russia does not equal a win…

    If I do somehow turn a win out of this, I would say that changing your schwerpunkt with Japan from south to north was your biggest strategic error.  You can ignore Russia for quite some time… although I am just crazy enough to build the complex in Korea with Russia if I thought it would help me any.  Since it is impossible to have Russia hold out on its own past G6 if Germany goes heavy ground, I find it somewhat liberating in what I choose to do with them.  Might as well make sure their deaths give the Allies the greatest possible strategic advantage.
