The game rules regarding submarines not making a sea zone hostile do not seem to reflect the realities of what submarines did in WW II. The Allies developed anti-submarine forces and the convoy system to fight the German submarine threat in the Atlantic theater and were, after a time, able to virtually eliminate the submarine threat from this “hostile sea zone”. On the other hand, the Japanese never bothered with anti-submarine forces or the convoy system and, by the end of the war, Allied submarines had essentially run out of targets to sink.
Transports and what they can carry

When I read the rules, it sounded like to me like it always has been. Either two infantry, one inf/one art, one inf/one AA, one tank, or one inf/one mech. I’ve read on the boards here that you can do an inf/tank. Is this true?

Yes, a transport can always load an infantry plus one other eligible unit of your choice (inf, AA, artillery, tank or mech).

Wow, that is super cool! Better than the old way. Thanks for the clarification

Wasn’t that how it’s always been? Or is 1942 one of the first games to do that. It’s the first game I bought, and I know that in 1942 you can have 1 infantry + 1 other ground unit of any kind.

In the 2nd edition (released 1986) it was these choices :2inf OR 1armor OR 1AA gun.
Europe (released 1999) and Pacific (released 2001) a transport could carry 1armor OR 2 other land units (in combo).
Revised (released 2004) changed it to what it is today!
