• Newbie question. In the context of Alpha 2, are there any restrictions on naval movement as to major powers that are not at war yet (not including the U.S., whose movement rules are very specific). Can Japan’s fleet vacation in the same sea zone as the U.S. fleet and enjoy the sights of Hawaii? Can Japan’s fleet visit the Outback and the coast of New Zealand? Alternatively, could the Soviet fleet make it to the Atlantic or would Germany block movement even though they are not at war?

Assuming that a neutral major power’s fleet can move into coastal territories or territories occupied by ships of a power they will soon be at war with, what are your preferred moves in that regard (possibly for psychological effect or a feint)?

  • Official Q&A

    Welcome, Dante13!

Other than the movements specifically prohibited by the rules, ships may move freely into and through sea zones occupied by units of powers with which they are not at war.  The US suffers unusually strict movement restrictions due to its isolationist policies.  Canals and straights controlled by powers on the other side with which you are not yet at war may only be passed through with the permission of the owner, which may be denied without incident.

So the Soviet fleet is not free to sail out through the Danish Straights to pre-position and defend SZ125 (unless the Germans foolishly alow it).

Hmmm.  Our group had been playing that incorrectly.
