    • RE: Broken, Busted, or Both

@thrasher1 I’m not sure how; but, my whole group of friends interpreted the zombies as an invading force. As Russia, I used infantry to create a zombie barrier between Germany and Russia. The way we had played, at home, this would stop Germany’s ability to blitz tanks into Russia…

Just a silly mis-interpretation on our part. Nothing any FAQ could resolve (I don’t believe).

@taamvan Sorry, I disagree. I love the twist it adds. It is just difficult to remember the small new rules it adds (like the zombie deaths, buying units at the end of a turn, and remembering that when the zombies are greater than the IPC count of a capitol then the zombies take control).

Personally, I loved the game. I made a HUGE mistake early on (having read and played wrong my only other time playing). But, I still loved the game.

Plus, remember to remove any killed zombies during EVERY roll. I was in the AAZ tournament too and we forgot to remove killed zombies a LOT during our rolls.

You mean when Attacker or Defender score a (6) and thus destroy a Z?

Yes. At least 2/3 of our rolls we completely forgot to remove zombie casualties (rolled 6s). Unless we specifically stated we were attacking zombies we just completely forgot to remove them.

As I understood it, yes, his tanks my stand a chance at being “killed” by the zombies. However, they would remain casualties and take a shot at the plane. Yes, zombies can’t kill the plane; but the tank casualties can.

Plus, add in the fact that there is a 1/6 chance for zombies to kill a defender and a 1/3 chance for them to kill attacking ground units.

    • RE: How to tell Classic first from second

@Playing-Kid Interesting. Would you mind looking at page 2 of your manual and letting me know if the piece count increased?

I do know you could order extra pieces…

    • RE: How to tell Classic first from second

@Midnight_Reaper said in How to tell Classic first from second:

Early versions came with 15 infantry per country, which was found to be too few. Later versions came with 17 or 18 infantry per country, to help make up the gap between pieces on hand and pieces needed on the board.

Not to disagree; but, I am a piece freak. I keep all my pieces with each individual game. My 2nd Ed game has 15 infantry per country. The rule book for 2nd Ed calls for 299 pieces. If you count 15 infantry it equals 299 pieces. I am fairly certain the only difference between editions is the rule book…

    • Global 1940 1st edition vs 2nd edition

What are the major changes?  I was under the impression it was merely a rulebook change.  But, my friend is adamant that there are other major changes…

    • RE: Missing pieces is my game still playable?

Boardgame Geek has a pdf file where you can print the IPCs and cut them out.

As far as chips go…looks like you have several options presented.

I have a small bag of extra pieces.  Shoot me an email to remind me and I will look through to see if I have what you need.

I enjoyed it.  Played well.  Something small feels “off”.  Not sure exactly what.  Don’t get me wrong.  I will play it again.  But, if given the choice between that and Axis & Allies I would choose the latter.  Just feels more “complete”.

    • RE: Ikusa - Shogun

      @billinjackson:

      @taamvan:

sweet.  the new version seemed really short of pieces to me, we didn’t play it but I have it.   It always seemed like you needed jillions of ashigaru…

You are correct. I used to break out shogun to add their pieces - always a pain

Sorry, from what I understand, the troop count is limited in order to increase attacks.  Basically, the only way to increase your number of troops is to kill off an opponent…you then get his troops to use.

Love the boxes with slip covers. What materials did you use?  Any helpful hints you are willing to pass on?

    • RE: The Return of Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition

I am more curious of the actual differences.  Does anyone know a good place to get pictures of the original anniversary pieces?

I have all the main games and have struggled over the years to not get the pieces mixed up (as opposed to my friends that just toss all the pieces into large containers).  I have printed lists of the original sculpts so I know what to look at.  Having never owned the original anniversary…I don’t have them…but would love to see them.

    • RE: Please Read Before Opening your Anniversary Box 2017!

My Italian box had a slight crease in the top…but, it pressed right out.  I was too anxious (and worried when I read about all the boxes that were missing parts)…

    • Looking for a good picture of the box cover

Interested in working on a fun “art” project using the front box covers from A&A games.  I own all the copies except Anniversary.  Anyone able to snap a decent quality picture and send it to me please???

    • RE: Classic Axis and Allies Accessory Pack

Yeah, I kind of figured nobody played with them and that they were out of business.  I was just more curious as to what the rules were and how the pieces were used.  More of a curiosity than anything else.

    • Classic Axis and Allies Accessory Pack

One of my A&A games came with a bunch of extra pieces.  After a bit of looking, I realized that some were from Xeno Games World at War, some were from D-Day, and some are from the A&A Accessory Pack.  Anyone have this?  Rules for it handy??

      https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgameexpansion/21850/axis-allies-accessories

There appear to be several other pieces that I can’t figure out.  They are matching colors for Classic and universal design like Classic (as opposed to 1942.2 where each country has their own scuplt).  Anyone aware of any other expansion packs??

    • First time playing Revised

Not a formal review or anything…but, I have played all the versions of the board game.  That said, Revised seems the most fairly matched, evenly played, in my humble opinion.  I absolutely LOVED the way it progressed.

Russia was an actual force for Germany.  Not easily defeated and actually had a very decent ability with aggression.  Very refreshing.

The overall lack of a good German navy created real issues that if not addressed early will haunt that player later in the game.

Britain was faced with an early decision (factory in India OR pound Germany).  This was sort of normal…

America, similar to Britain, was fairly normal.

I guess the overall thought was that there wasn’t an overall clear winner after the first turn.  It seems like most of the versions I have played seem more like prolonging the inevitable after the opening sequence.  This one still had lots of possibilities and until the 5th or 6th round were still “anybody’s game”.

    • AA gun question

I am use to playing older versions of this game.  My wife bought me 42.2 for my birthday and I played with my son over the weekend.  I have a question about AA guns in this version.  If my country is attacked and I have an AA gun, is it used as a casualty, or is it changed over to the invader if he succeeds?

I know how this was handled in older versions of the game…but, this one has country specific colored AA guns.  Makes me think they are casualties.

    • RE: Rules

Thanks. So, the Alpha rules were basically beta tests for 2nd edition. Got it.

And the G42 is basically just tournament rules to make it play faster?

Anyone know where I could find a PDF of 1st Edition?  My friend owns that version and occasionally wants to play it. I would like to read over the rules a few times to make sure I get the nuisances.

    • Rules

Ok…  I am fully confused on this whole Global thing.  My friend and I have played Global using the rulebooks he got in his Europe/Pacific 1940 sets (first edition I believe).  Now there is apparently a Europe/Pacific 1940 second edition?

And, how do these rules compare to the Global 1940 Alpha +3 and G42 sets of rules?

I am just confused about what set of rules we should be using…

    • RE: Classic vs Classic 2nd Edition

Thanks.  A friend and I have wanted to play all the versions of the game just to get a feel for them.  So far, we have played Classic 2nd Ed, 1942, 1942 2nd Ed, Global 1940, and both variants of Anniversary.  I just ordered Revised, found the rules of Classic, and Global 1942.  I just want to make sure we are playing them “correctly”.

      Thanks!!!

    • Classic vs Classic 2nd Edition

I recently received a copy of the original Classic rules (1984).  Anyone know what the main differences between that and Classic 2nd Edition (1986) were?  From my understanding, they both used the same game board and pieces…
