Description:
G40 Alt-Universe is for those who love Axis and Allies, but are looking for a new strategic experience. The war is the same, but occurs in an alternate universe where the Earth’s land formation happened differently. It’s a return to the early days of pouring over the map and developing strategies in an unfamiliar setting.

General:
G40 Alt-Universe is designed to be played with the components and basic ruleset of Axis and Allies Europe 1940 Second Edition and Axis and Allies Pacific 1940 Second Edition.

For in-person play, if you already own Europe and Pacific 1940, all you need is a printed map file. If you’re interested in getting the map file, please private-message me or use the email mentioned in the YouTube video.

If you want to try the game electronically, I’ve also created a TripleA game file, available at the link mentioned above.

Note that the game is in a beta phase and might still be subject to minor changes, however, no map changes are anticipated and would be done only as a last resort in order to fix an exploit.

One I would like to see is have the same info but presented on a bar/line chart that shows the trend over time easily. Perhaps it would have “zoom” / “expand” buttons that allowed you to change the time scale to show fewer (zoom) or more (expand) turns at one time.

Try going: Game -> Engine Settings -> Testing -> Show Beta Features = True

Then restart Triplea and go: Game -> Game Statistics

Welcome aboard. Are you familiar with TripleA? It’s what most people use on the forum to play games with each other electronically. It’s also open as an engine for anyone to design new games/scenarios on. It might be of interest if you’re into designing games.

There’s also the below thread which houses conversations on a lot of custom variants people have come up with. Balance Mod and Path to Victory exist in Triple A and are the most played in the league.

YG’s second tournament never happened, although I believe he cancelled 1-2 years in advance.

However, there is a tournament happening in Dayton Ohio May 20-22, 2023 using YG’s tournament edition that @Young-Grasshopper plans to attend.

The only place I know of that it’s posted right now is the “Axis and Allies” group on Facebook under the events section.

Format:

• 8 Players, 1 vs 1, Single elimination tournament, random seeding

• Marti Dice Server, regular dice
• No Technology
• Sides chosen by bidding (see below)

Game Rules:

• G40 Alt-Universe Rules (Version Beta-1.3, as of 1.1.2022) -> Using 1940 Global 2nd Edition rules as basis

Bidding:
Players should randomly chose who will bid first. The initial bid should be in the form of “Alliance: #” where “Alliance” is either Axis or Allies and “#” is the IPC bid. The opponent should then either:
o Approve the bid
o Offer a lower # value (including into negative values)

If a lower value is offered, then the decision will revert to the other player. This process should be repeated until a player approves a bid offered by their opponent.

When a bid is approved, the player who made it has purchased the right to play the alliance from the initial bid for the compensation of the agreed IPCs.

If the IPC bid is positive, it will go to the alliance from the initial bid. If the IPC bid is negative it will go to the opposite alliance as a positive value.

Spending the Bid:
Bid IPCs can either be allocated to the treasuries of the nations from the alliance receiving them or spent on additional units in the starting setup as follows:

1. Limit one bid unit in a territory or sea zone.
2. The nation placing a unit in a territory or sea zone must have started with a unit in said territory or sea zone prior to placing the bid.
3. China is limited to bid units of: Infantry, Artillery, AA Guns (the units China is legally able to purchase) These units are still limited to movement/placement restrictions of Chinese units.

Tournament Moderator:
@Contango will serve as rules and tournament moderator and will have ultimate decision authority over any rule/game/tournament dispute.

Game Thread:
Thread title should include the names of both players, which side they are playing and that it is a G40 Alt-Universe game.

Bid units should be declared in the first post of the thread.

I’m looking to entice (bribe?) some players into giving this map a try on TripleA for purposes of playtesting feedback.

I’m going to be doing a draw for a 72”x33” physical map printed on banner vinyl to be shipped to the winner.

To be entered into the draw, complete a TripleA game of G40 Alt-Universe and submit feedback on game balance and any potential exploits found. All participating players will be entered per below:

1 draw entry – Complete a solo TripleA game where you play both sides and send me the TripleA file.
2 draw entries – Complete a Play by Email game with one or more opponents and copy me on game emails.
3 draw entries – Complete a forum game in the “Play Boardgames” section of axisandallies.org with one or more opponents

Other Details:

• Multiple entries from the same player are welcome
• A full game is considered at least 8 rounds
• Cut-off date for entries is TBD

Agree with @hengst that they are sold out and don’t think he has plans for another run. Don’t think he checks the forums much these days but he did put out a new video not that long ago and said he wants to do a series teaching people how to play G40.

Just wondering what version of TripleA you are running. I tried opening your game file and get an error that it’s from a newer version of TripleA. However when I go to the TripleA download site I seem to be on the current version. (2.5.22294)

I believe TripleA does do a number of auto-saves as you’re playing through the game. Provided they haven’t been overwritten by playing another game, the one you’re looking for might still be available in an almost current state.

You’ll need to find the autoSave folder inside of the TripleA folder on your computer.

Situation: At the beginning of the UK turn, a US transport sits in SZ 110 with one UK land unit loaded on it during a prior turn. SZ 110 is adjacent to both United Kingdom and Normandy Bordeaux territories, both of which are allied owned. United Kingdom has an additional UK land unit in it. At least one of the two UK land units mentioned is an infantry.

Question: During the same UK non-combat phase, can the UK land unit starting in United Kingdom load onto the US transport whilst the UK land unit starting on the US transport offloads into Normandy Bordeaux?

Bonus Question 1: If the answer above is “yes”, would it still be “yes” if the UK land unit starting on the US transport offloads into United Kingdom?

Bonus Question 2: If the answer to the first question is “yes”, would it still be yes if neither of the UK land units were infantry? (is the spirit of the rules that loading always happens first and hence would not be allowable because two non-infantry units would be aboard the transport together, or could the offload be seen as happening first?)
