Custom Setups

This is a great alternative set up for 1942 anniversary game .  Love the turn order and how the Americans right off the bat get action in the pacific theatre.  I have played this set up twice and have seen the axis and allies both win a game.  I can vouch for this scenario as I had a blast playing it.  If you want more pieces and naval action quickly in the pacific then give this one a try.

This project is finished.  I left a link on the first post to the latest version.  All the rules you need to play are from 1940 or specified with the setup.  Countries like Poland are simply made pro–allies.  Although this is 1939, it is only suppossed to be a one turn rewind of 1940.  To faciiliate blitzkreig, Germany can take Poland, Denmakr, Norway, and Holland/Belgium before the Allies can react.  France is suppossed to fall turn two.

As for Russia, it can take all the territories you mentioned.  (See the politicial situation changes).  All other rules are left as OOB because I want this to be a generic setup that people can customize as they want.

Europe 1939 is finished, and I will get the Pacific and Global finalized soon.

Our group has decided to modify the NOs in order to help Italy get something going after Taranto… We are removing the 5 IPC bonus for control of all North Africa, and replacing it with…

5 IPCs if Italy has at least 1 land unit in Africa.

I tried out your idea in a game.  I played Germany.
LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO ME!!!
Do you see any Germans?  Do you see any Italians?  Of course not!  They have been TOTALLY wiped out off the face of the earth.  They don’t even exist anymore.
The attached pics show the end result of our game.  First you see Europe just crowded with British and Americans.  Then you see what’s left of Japan’s empire, just a few guys stuck out on some islands to go crazy by themselves.
Okay, actually this isn’t really a result of your new game idea, but of a tremendous blunder on the part of our Japan player.  Actually, it was looking good for the Axis right at first.  Germany smashed the Royal Navy with minimal losses in aircraft.  Italy was showing strong in the Med and poised to take Egypt (with a shiny new IC placed by UK) and Japan had taken Hong Kong, Philippines, Malaya, half of the DEI and were in good shape to get Calcutta.
That’s when Japan really screwed up.  They had purchased some warships to fight off the US fleet, most of which was by Hawaii, but had NOT A SINGLE UNIT ON JAPAN ITSELF!  All land units were on transports taking Hong Kong, etc. and all the planes were on the mainland or on carriers.
Well, like I said, the US had a good size fleet at the naval base in Hawaii so on the US turn 2, they floated right up to SZ 6 and promptly sank the Japanese warships there.  Then they “walked” onto Japan with 1 transport worth of units – 1 infantry + 1 artillery – and took out Japan.  US got about 50 IPCs or so plundered from Japan, plus reduced their major IC to a minor.
Japan did have enough stuff in range to take Japan back, but the US also had a back-up fleet, this one with 3 or 4 transports of men and equipment, ready to hit them again.  Which they did and took Japan again, gaining another 50 IPCs or so.  This time Japan lost all but 1 or 2 transports and those were out of range.  Japan was done for and after 2 or 3 rounds of mopping them up, ALL the Allies started heading for Europe.
Germany managed to take Moscow but the USA took Rome in the same round.  USA and Germany traded Northern Italy for a couple of rounds until USA finally won the territory with enough left over to keep it.  It was only a matter of time after that.  USA and UK kept taking territories along the Atlantic, Moscow got liberated and Calcutta just kept sending tanks and bombers to Europe.  Finally, after 14 rounds, we ended up with what you see in the pics.
I think if Japan hadn’t made such a moronic blunder, this could have very well been an Axis victory.  By the way, the rounds did go a little faster not having to mess with ANZAC, China and France.

The operation you described (Manstein’s attempt to break the entrapment of the 6th Army at Stalingrad) actually took place in December 1942. If you’re looking into 1943 then you’d have the 3rd Battle of Kharkov (the Germans taking the territory of Rostov) on Feb or even Kursk, although that’s by late summer 1943.

Japanese destroyers can carry one infantry.

I have cobbled together suggestions voiced online here and Larry Harris site,
what players believed may be missing from AA50 1941,
   This is a simple compilation of those ideas, just started testing;

1)selected Neutral Territories can now be invaded ,
     with added defensive units for Neutrals.
     also:see house rules for additional ideas on how to handle Neutrals.)
2)Earlier setup than OOB-March 1941, Greenland is still a Neutral territory,
     Persia(Iran) is also a Neutral territory.
3) Added suggested IPC strength to Allies:
         Canada divided into (4) Territories;
         Australia divided into (5) Territories.
         U.S.A. added (1)new territory Rocky Mtn West and
         moved Central U.S. next to Eastern U.S.
4)Axis Africa was still in play;:
         (Italians control East Africa, Vichy control West Africa/Madagascar, )
          with added Vichy and Italian units to support.
5)Added for those who wanted value, (1) IPC to all island territories,
    only for those Islands that previously had no territory value.
6) Added Player’s suggested Units for balance:
     Germany-Battleship-BB
     U.S.-Crusier unit-CA, ARM
     U.S. UK Japan-SS units missing from Pacific added.
     USSR-FTR and several RTL
     UK-CA, DD, INF units to Africa campaign.
     Vichy French-Naval-CA, SS, DD, RTL, INF for Africa campaign.
     Italian-DD, SS, FTR, INF for Africa campaign.
     Japan -BMB, DD
     1941 China starts with qty (11)INF

Suggested Optional Rules:
Optional rule:Non-Aggression Treaty between Japan-USSR, if they attack each other penalty invoked, focus Japan on Pacific and U.S.S.R. on Europe.
optional rule:Stealth Subs-pop up undetected and ambush your enemy.
optional rule:Vichy units-will they Defend yes/No.
optional rule:Carrier Island to give Islands tactical value.
    (this provides Island based Air units a slight range increase.)
