• I have a quick question.  The situation is this… There re 3 Japanese transports in sz6 and no other surface ships.  There is also a US sub there.  If Japan declares war on the US, can the transports A) load men in the combat move phase? (I think so, but I’m not sure) B)When they move out of the sz (or if they stay) does the sub get it’s free shot at them since they’re unescorted and loaded men in the combat move phase?

  • Official Q&A

    A) Yes, but only if they’re making an amphibious assault.

    B) Yes.  However, if a transport doesn’t move and only loads or unloads, it won’t be fired upon, as it didn’t move within the sea zone.

  • So when a transport loads or unloads it means its at port and it cannot be fired upon even if the sub is at the same sea zone?
    I also would like to ask, if a sub wants to attack a cruiser for example, and its in the same sea zone, declares a surprise attack and misses does the cruiser fight back or does this mean that the attack stops there and the sub submerges? Can the sub attack from another sea zone or must it always be on the same sea zone with its opponent?

    @orcageo:

    Loading or unloading doesn’t require movement, so the transport is safe.  However, if it both loads and unloads, it must move, even if it doesn’t leave the sea zone.

    The cruiser fires back.  Subs submerge instead of firing, not in addition to firing.  If a sub fires, it must endure return fire from the survivors before it can submerge in the next combat round.

    @orcageo:

    Can the sub attack from another sea zone or must it always be on the same sea zone with its opponent?

    It must be in the same sea zone.

  • Thank you very much Krieghund!

  • So, if undefended transports start in the same sea zone as a sub, but don’t move then in addition to not being fired upon as they move, there is also no combat as the transports get to “ignore” the subs like other surface wessels?

  • Official Q&A

    Correct.

  • If I attacked (with a sub) a seazone with an enemy sub + transport, could I decide to ignore the other sub and just kill the transport or does the ‘first strike firing’ have to happen once before I get to kill the transport?

  • Official Q&A

    You can’t pick and choose which enemy units in a space you attack.  If you attack one, you attack them all.  The only exception is when units of a power with which you are not at war also occupy the attacked sea zone.
