    • RE: Containing the Ottomans

      @ghr2:

      I like Russia taking out Mesopotamia as well.  UK can clean up any survivors and reinforce the defense.

      Russia can certainly pull this off but I think they have to strike a balance between the amount of troops they send south and how many they keep to defend Moscow.  The Ottomans are an easy target but as long as you can keep them out of Egypt and India, Germany and AH are the real threat.

    • RE: Tanks - worth purchasing?

      Since I’m used to the more traditional tank rules of A&A, when I saw the $6 price tag and attack:2/Def:1 I was appalled.  However, I’ve warmed up to them after a few games.  Having at least 3-4 tanks combined with large amounts of artillery supported by fighters make a very potent combination.  Also, they will help save your artillery as your infantry are whittled away.  You just have to be very carefull about leaving them open to a counter attack since you must have at least one inf unit in each army group.

      @WILD:

      The Austrians need ground units though to keep their supply line going so IDK. I think I have a chance to take parts of Africa w/Turks, but unless I can figure out a way to stop the the Brits from reinforcing it they’ll just retake what I get, and will liberate Egypt as soon as I move out. The Turks in Africa is what I wanted as the game started though, so I’m very interested to see how it works out.

      BTW my Germans haven’t fair to well in Africa (like I said that G1 attack on S Africa didn’t go to well), and my last inf is making its last stand (but did just survive a 2 inf French attack, and killed a French unit LOL).

      I think the Ottomans are the only CP that can have any lasting effect in Africa.  Through some creative movements and lucky dice rolls the Germans can be a thorn in the Allies’ side but they will fall sooner or later.  Keep us posted on how this turned out for you.

      I also like the small dice.  They are pretty useful when battles have large numbers of units.  After a game of 1914 the normal size dice start to feel too large and “clunky”.

      @texasranger97:

      I was wondering if the chips fit with the one from 1940 2nd edition

      they unfortunately do not

      @texasranger97:

      Are the roundels the same size?

      Yes

      @texasranger97:

      Infantry sculpt are the same size then other games?

      Roughly yes

      @texasranger97:

      And could somebody upload a picture of a dice from 1914 with one from 1940 to see the size difference?

      I dont have a picture but I know that 1914’s dice are 12mm while other AA games are 16mm

    • RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread

      @TheVenocWarlord:

      Here is what I do for contested territories:

      When an army moves in to contest a territory, I immediately place that attacking army’s control marker on the territory upside down. I then also immediately deduct the lost income on the chart to show the contested situation. Much simpler to show the changes.

      I believe the rule book (p.15) has you deduct the income immediately also.  Remembering to do that will save a lot of time when calculating income.  I use orange chips from HBG to identify contested territories.  I guess you could also use the grey or red chips from other AA games.

      Perhaps a limit on how many IPC’s can be spent or units can be produced in India could make Africa more dynamic.

      @Flashman:

      The other main objective is that the SZs bordering Africa have no mines, which should make naval combat more lively; the CP fleets can link up, or invade north Africa.

      That definitely think that could change things up a lot.  Those mines in SZ17 and the large allied fleets make any early AH naval plans difficult.

      @Flashman:

      I’ve suggested redividing the Med as follows:

      I like that you have SZ20 divided which would allow the Ottomans to control sea movement through the straight.I’ve wondered why the game has Constantinople spanning across a single SZ which allows enemy ships to travel through.  Hopefully it was a balance issue and not a mistake.

      However, I like that the original map has Rome only adjacent to SZ17.  It may be too easy for AH to take it on your map.  Unless the allies take out their navy of course.
