  • Your neutral crush had me nervous, and was a good response to Russia falling. I was surprised at how fast Germany was able to turn and build a strong enough force to take Spain. I think the key was that Japan was doing the heavy lifting in Asia after Russia fell.

    Remember when I said the key (IMO) to a strong Japan is destroyer blockers? I think this game was a good way to see it in action. You can never have enough. With the air power you start with, a few extra carriers at the right time, and a very determined effort to build at least three per round, you can hold off Allied fleets for a long time.

    It’s all a learning process… I’ve played one version or another of A&A since I was 13, and I’m 44 (an old man), and I still take my lumps and learn new things all the time  :roll:


  • the neutral strategy needs you to sort of ignore Japan early though because you have to get in there and be really strong AND have Russia still alive (i.e. bring back all the men from the Eastern border)…so it was sort of a panic move by me…I think if I built all Atlantic early except for a few cheap ships and moved in sooner, then maybe there’s hope and after establishing very strong US position in Europe, have a delayed reaction to Japan and start building more in Pacific…but once Russia falls you are just way too rich to be stopped unless I can come in really strong…

    when I play Axis I need to get used to the idea of sitting on things…just because I can try to wipe out a 40-person army (but take a lot of damage in doing so) doesn’t mean I should, because they are stronger on defense and I will lose a lot of my planes in doing so…an unfortunate inaccuracy of this game is that time is sort of on the Axis side, especially since slow-moving German units are very hard to stop in Russia, and like I said, after you grab Russia, you are stupid wealthy, so there is almost never any reason for a large-scale attack when you play as the Axis (except when you’re sure you’re going to take a capital)…

    oh well, only way I can get better is to keep playing people better than me, and since they are league games I know I am playing against people who care so I can pick up on actual strategies…

    A way to capitalize on what you were saying earlier… buy more infantry with the Axis, and Germany in particular. There are a lot of articles on this site that will help with the ratio.

    Armor are sleek, fast, fun, and powerful… but eventually the math catches up with you if your opponent is buying two infantry for every armor you’re purchasing. Look at it this way… two infantry attacks at a 2, defends at a 4, and takes 2 hits to kill, and moves 1. An armor attacks on a 3, defends on a 3, takes one hit to kill, and moves 2.

    I’ve bolded the most important part, from my perspective… it means everything.
