Will the U.S. and China eventually come into conflict?

  • I know what your saying Jazz
I think T.C. popularity is do to the fact that he considered an expert in reguards to the military.
And he’s stories may hide hidden truths……er something like that anyway.

His stories bring a sense of what could be.

  • The whole 9/11 thing is something that I could have seen TC writting about.

  • @Yanny:

A war between China and Russia would go Nuclear. Got that out of another Tom Clancy book ) (reading Executive Order now)

i repeat: “The bear and the dragon”.

  • If “conflict” (I’m still vague as to exactly what you mean by this) is to occur between China and America, then I don’t think it would be between the Peoples’ Republic of China. Many analyst, economist, and fellow Chinese place the fall of the PRC in 15 years. However, I wish for no war. A war with China would have to mean total war with a country whose economy is predicted to blossom in 2008-2010. China also has the largest army in the world (not to mention a nigh-inexhaustible pool of manpower) and is rapidly making gains at modernizing their military for the 21st Cenutry (especially beefing up their rocketry, navy, and air force).

I don’t expect that it will go nuclear though (don’t believe everything you read in the books), but in terms of human life and material cost, it will be devastating on both parts. I’m not sure either side would be able to achieve victory. At any point, I would had to see war break out between these two countries. We need the Chinese as a valuable manufacturing and trading partner just as much as we do. That relation alone is more than enough to keep both sides “friendly” with one another.

PS: After reading the post, I basically agree with everything F_alk, Crypt, and Yanny have to say. I honestly doubt that the Chinese (judging from the people here and aboard) have any real intentions of taking Taiwan. Most of that banther comes from the the old, YRC Socialist who are mostly all talk but no action. Mongolia seems doubtful too, and only Siberian has some legitimate concern, but nothing to go at war after IMHO.

  • CHina may have the biggest air force in the world, but that doesnt make it the best in the world. The IAF has been given the title of the best airforce in the world and the United States has the best land based military.

how are you defining “best land based military”?
In terms of best trained, many countries (including our own) might give their infantry a run for its money.
At the same time, the shear numbers and organization of American ground forces is quite formidable.

  • I dunno, “best training” is really a subjective statement. Also there are other factors like leadership, tactics, order of battle, equipment, weapons, vehicles, logistics, ground-air support, size, ect. to factor in.

  • Yea, I’ll believe that.

I also think that it’s takes a combination and coordination of all your forces to really win a battle. Talk is one thing, but having your land elements, your navy, and your air-force all work together is what really wins wars.

Something that the US has become increasingly more adapt at in recent decades, particularly given the logistics with respects to its machine. Another lesson learned from Vietnam, it would seem, no?

  • Yes. Absolutely. :P

  • Another lesson learned from Vietnam, it would seem, no?

Nah, that lession was learned far off in World War II. It’s just that some people decided on “small potatoes” and neglected it during the Vietnam War.

  • The biggest lesson learned from Nam was, IMHO of course, keep Politicians away from the war and let the soldiers fight it.

  • I hope China and the United States will never come into conflict. I will be torn apart… :(

  • The US military is definately the best equiped military in the world. Training can be debated, there are some really well trained European countries.

  • Such as? I dont see any of the European powers as better trained than America’s forces.

  • Almost all of Western Europe’s Military consists of purely Special Forces. Imagine a small regular army of Green Berets.

  • Well, I can name one off the top of my head. The British SAS is the most experienced and revered Special Forces unit in the world.

  • Yanny Said:

Imagine a small regular army of Green Berets.

    The following is IMHO

While it is a cool idea to dream about it is not practable. They contradict each other. Green Berets are not meant to be used in huge formations in a battle. They are designed to work in small groups. The same for SEALS, Delta Force, Rangers, Airforce Special Ops, Marine Force Recon ect…

They have been used in large groups and the operations were not spectacular success’

  • I think the Brits also have the Elite Paras too (not to forget Commandos). They did a lot of damage in the F_alkland () Island Conflict

Well European armies were never meant to be on the scale of US Armed forces. Not all of European forces are composed of special forces, though they do make up a higher percentage of it I believe.

Also some of the African Units are trainned pretty tough too.

  • First, the Chinese air force is a joke. The planes are old MIGs and the pilots get small amounts of flight hours. Remeber the incident when the CHinese fighter crashed into the U.S. radar plane? Their pilots and planes sucked ass.

Second, European militaries do have special forces. SO do we. We have more special forces. Its not like they have armies of special forces. The SAS are good. But so are the Navy SEALs, Delta Force, Green Berates, and Rangers. The GUlf war was less difficult than some training exercises.

Thrid, Yanny you are acting like CHina is a country like the U.S. In China, hundreds of millions of the people are sustenance farmers. HOw is a sustencance farmer in Eastern China going to help the war effort. Besides in a war with the SEATO as attacking China the Costal, advanced, Urban areas would be quickly overrun. The areas which could produce a lot of soldiers, ammunition, canned food, etc. would fall quickly to Seato control
