@DoManMacgee Great writeups! I watched the footage from your game on the BGN YouTube channel you mentioned, and was excited to find your side of the writeup (and your previous tournament games) here as well.
I remember reading long ago in caspian sub articles how critical it is to have a partner for tournament play like this; not necessarily to evenly share the strategic or decision-making load, but to do just the things you mention here; calculating, counting air movement, scanning for naked transports, fetching food/drinks, and being the ‘alarm’ and a second set of eyes. I’ll probably never play in a tournament myself, but when I saw you going solo on that video I gave an audible “Oooph” thinking about how many full games you probably had to play already, alone, just to reach the semis. I can’t believe you hit round 8 in one of your matches!
If you wanted a link to the YouTube video of your semi-final match, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc4EmCPKyTw. BGN recreates games with a physical board and good camera work, walking viewers through the moves and strategies as they play out. For some of the larger or more dramatic battles they will also switch over to footage from the actual match.
