    • RE: Killing Fleets with Bombers

One of goals for AAR was to encourage combined arms. The bomber drop is a good thing. Lower cost brings up demand. The drop from AAR to AA50 is just a refinement of this ‘combined arms doctrine’. I’m all for it.

Good luck with that. I assume you know where to get the sets? TT was a godsend for me. I try to reccomend them for anyone who wants to mod thier AA games.

      Best of Luck.

    • RE: Games like A&A?

Honestly and not to call anyone out on AA.org, but I think most people in here would probably be happier playing Attack! and it’s expansions. It’s totally balanced and is purpose built to be screwed around with. All the territories are worth the same value and you can do just about anything you want in it. It’s basically Risk meets A&A set in the 30’s.

It’s allright. I own it but it’s not my fav. If you want everything “Even Steven”, I reccomend it. The games can go as long or short as you want. The map is huge. You can place your capitol anywhere. And you never have the same game twice.

Last but least I cannot reccomend going to tabletactics.com enough if you want Fortress America style molds you’ll drool “Homer Style” over them.

    • RE: Who does AA50 cater to?

This is a good topic I voted the vets, but only by a small margin.

The vets know it, but alot are skeptical. But let’s say some Risk or Attack! vet spots this, or even the dad or uncle sees it at Toys R Us. That might spark a light of nostalgia.

As for the price I agree 100.00 at the hobby shop. Toys R Us/Hobby shop is the only way to get this in one day. Toys R Us also is selling AADD and AAR at 39.99 I’d rather support my local game shop than buy online because here in my city there’s not many of them. Basically the only way you’ll find this cheap is if you buy online.

Amen Quiggley. I used to have the classic board memorized. It’s simple enough that it can almost be played as casually as Risk. No only that it was just plain fun.

    • RE: Favorite WW2 Fighter Plane

My fav is the Hellcat. It’s so American. The Corsair is pretty close as is the Mustang and the Thunderbolt, but the Hellcat was the glove that bloodied the Japs nose. The Wildcat was there first, but the Hellcat was good ol’ American muscle and .50 cal American lead.

      USA USA USA!!!

    • RE: Patton’s Plan for Russia and Macarthur’s plan for China…

Another thing that isn’t as widely talked about is the fact that people were getting really sick of the war. towards 1945 it was getting harder to get people to buy war bonds even though we were winning.

Not only that, the more liberal members or parliment in England booted Churchill after the war. In addition to win the war in the Pacific a general agreement was made to southeast asian goverments that after the war they would be more/fully independent of thier european masters. The communists would have and did have support in this region.

In theory Patton had the right idea but I think in the end there wouldn’t have been the support of the people in the west.

The best example of this was the Koerean War. It was historically the least popular of all of our modern conflicts including Vietnam.

      Question:

Do you get a bonus for each NO achieved or just for one of any?

    • RE: North-West Europe

Personally I think adding NWE and other territories was a great idea. You’re always going to have trading unless you change the core fundamentals of the game. After too many changes the game isn’t really A&A, at least to me. I also think a good number of A&A players are far more casual than some who play and post here or play in tourneys. A&A kind of tries to go for mass appeal but the beauty of the game is that it can adapt to house rules. I’m an “advanced” casual player myself. I’m very farmiliar with the game, but I don’t play as often as alot of players here.

You could try say, putting some gray or white chips under a national marker and remove one chip for every turn played. After so many turns you capture it. Or something like that. Say regular one chip for regular territory, two for VCs, and three for capitals.

I drive a Ford Edge and it got so many gadgets and stuff that I don’t really need, but I got a good deal on it. There’s something to be said for covienience and comfort and the ability to haul ass.

    • TripleA

      I keep hearing about TripleA.

What is it? Where do you play? I can’t seem to figure out how to get in on this.

I tried downloading the game and I think I did something wrong.

Can anyone give me some help with this?

    • RE: Naval Units: what is worth buying?

The problem is that they’ve been tweaked way too much and yet they haven’t ever really addressed the effect of submarines on commerce.

On another note when I used to play Iron Blitz my favorite navies had lots of DDs and ACs.

Again I haven’t played AA50 yet, but in AAR subs are just no fun for me unless radical house rules are used for them.

    • RE: Plastic Playing Pieces

I agree the game is awsome. My complaint, as well as other’s is just the quality and quantity of some of the components. It’s cool to have nation spacific pieces, but if it means poor quality I think it’s appropriate to complain about it. If all of the parties involved with the production of this game had decided to use even cardboard counters I’d have been happy. At 100.00 on average in retail stores people are going to get a little upset.

I shouldn’t have to canibalize my other A&A editions to make a proper game.

I did have an AC that was curved (AAR esp.) and cast poorly and wouldn’t sit flat on the board until I heated and bent it straight. I also have little white flecks in alot of the other pieces. Some ships have the super-structures half missing. I still am going to enjoy this game alot and am looking forward to playing but for money someone pays for this game I genuinely feel a little jipped.

This has been my experience with both AAR and AA50.

    • RE: Naval Units: what is worth buying?

The worst has got to be the sub, I’m used to classic A&A and ever since AAR and the spin-offs the sub has become a complex, not worth it, pain in the ass. To the point where I don’t even buy them. Mind you, I just started getting back into the game and it’s been a while.
