Well for the 2020 playoffs the rules are set so no crying. You know what you are signing up for. Don’t like OOB then don’t sign up. For 2021 I think the discussion can be had to change the playoff rules. I will leave PTV out of it. Its too different of a game. As for leaving it as OOB I see the merits of that. BM3 is only a mod (not perfect but a really good one) that is used in this league. I can only speak from my experience but I found this league and site after playing the OOB BOARD GAME many times amongst friends. So I would venture to say anyone coming in new to the league would have OOB as their base of knowledge. You may alienate new people with requiring BM3. Even though BM3 is better in a lot of peoples opinions no one new has the chance to play it unless they join the league. I think only after playing OOB against high end opponents do you tend to see the imbalance of OOB. At least for me that was the case. Then slowly learning and playing BM3 do you really appreciate it. And then you can weigh the pros and cons of OOB vs BM3. But IMO limiting new people to the league is more of a detriment than complaining about having to play OOB. Just my two cents.

Not sure, but as I remember it was majikforce who discussed playing other players and how it hurt his record.
For me now that I know there is a friendly area to play n to help players get better I am content with the League as is. trulpen and I are doing a Tutor game and I expect to do at least 2-3 of those a year for those interested. In fact our first one is just beginning! CHECK IT OUT!!!
Just for the record I don’t recall ever complaining about my rank. It really doesn’t matter to me. I know full well what my rank is and where I fit in this league. I waffle between tier 1 and E depending on my brain capacity that day
I know what players I can beat and what players I have can have a pretty even match with and what players kick my ass! (looking at you AD!) So my ranking is just a number. I enjoy playing new players to help them get up to speed and hopefully enrich the league play. Sometimes it burns me (ie trulpen and andrewgamer beating me as 3’s) but that’s okay. It just shows their skill level and my lack of skill in an area. All for the better. As for the ranking system I think it works great for this league and is a proven system (thanks for all you do gamerman, greatly appreciated) Some people will just always be a certain level player no matter who they play, some will grow to be better players, some will not. It takes a chunk of time and commitment to play this game and maybe the higher level players just don’t want to invest in that to beat up on some lower tier player. It may not even help that player to get stomped by an M. To have a balanced league the higher tiers should have somewhat of a responsibility to improve game play with their knowledge. But not at the cost of taking the fun out of the game. Just my thoughts. Great people, great league, great game! Bombs away.

Offering up a chance for new players or lower tier players to get a game with me. I have 1 or 2 slots open and my work is shut down next week so I have all the time in the world. Maybe…wife and kids may have a say in that
. PM me for a game. Everybody stay safe and healthy out there!

IMO, Vichy favours axis slightly, marines are a close call.
Sbr changes favour the allies but the real changes are in the no’s.
I agree Vichy favors the axis slightly but it is easily prevented but at a price. Marines are lots of fun. I wouldn’t say necessary but definitely add spice to the pacific theater. One huge change that is overlooked a lot is the capital plunder only being allowed to occur once. A big balance for the Allies.

@gamerman01 AetV (axis) over majikforce (allies) A well fought match. Marred a bit by a 1st battle dicing in sz6 for the US which was difficult to recover from. But the axis handled everything the Allies threw at them with poise and determined focus. Good work by Aetv!

RE: League General Discussion Thread
@farmboy I have never been one to care about my ranking. I know what my skill level is. It may not necessarily be that the upper tier players care about a ranking as well, there is something to be said about taking on a challenging game. It does take time and effort to play this game even online and if the competition does not challenge you it may be a deterrent to picking up some games. Do you think Lebron James really wants to play you in one on one and enjoy it?
All that being said I do think the upper tier players owe it to the league to play some lower tier players and coach them up somewhat. I have always tried to play newer players and help them out a little bit. As a group its in our best interest to have as many good payers as possible to keep competition alive. I have slimmed my games down for a time but I would be willing to open 1 or 2 slots for a new or lower tier player. PM me if you want a game.

RE: League General Discussion Thread
@axis-dominion To be fair I did not specifically call anyone out for crying. Maybe a better choice of words is to complain even when you know the rules going into it. Is OOB so bad that you could never possibly get a win? I doubt that very much. That being said I am for a change in 2021 to be like you said take the predominantly played version as the playoff default. Now this talk of you resigning your game if “insisting to play OOB” I think is bad form. You knew the rules signing up for 2020 and as stated the default is OOB so the potential is there for you to have to play OOB possibly. To resign in the middle of a playoff robs someone else of the chance to play in tier 1. You should bow out now if that is your intention.

RE: Tutor game: AndrewAAGamer (X) vs trulpen [and everyone else] (A+50) OOB
@trulpen
British
Scotland: 1 fighter – I would definitely do this
Sz 110, 91 and 98: 1 sub each --I would maybe add a sub or dd to 106 instead of 110
sz 71: 1 transport --Could be useful depending on what UK wants to do UK1
Egypt: 1 infantry --I would only do ground troops a mech or tank here if you were committing to Tobruk UK1 and then you would want to add in Alexandria as wellChina
Yunnan: 1 inf --Seems like it would make it tougher for Japan but in the end you probably lose the inf anyway.Anzac
sz 62: 1 sub --Interesting to help thwart a J1 could be useful.
New Guinea: 1 inf-- I don’t allow this bid placement due to the league rules. Plus it is attached to NO and doesn’t seem very fair.I agree that most of the bid should go to the UK on the Europe side. It has the most impact there and can change the landscape of a mostly scripted G1. Anything to help throw off G1.
The thought should be to get the most bang for your buck. That means being able to use the units when it comes your turn. So keep the bid units safe, maybe 106 is the exception. I have been messing around with a fighter or tac in malta and a strat in egypt. Assuming Tarnato is on the table UK1. It may help keep London with fighters for a possible sea lion and still be able to overcome the possible scramble in 97. Plus you don’t have to leave the carrier in 97 to get cleaned up by the Luftwaffe. Just my thoughts. This seems like a really cool and refreshing idea. Hope it goes well. Can’t wait to follow along! -

RE: Factories and Facilties—Where, How, When, and Why?
There is a strong case for buliding a majir on romania rather then a minor.
1. More units in russia turn two and three, ( 5 mechs +5 tanks romania turn 2 ukraine if you do an r1?) Units from this factory won’t affect russia until turn three. While you couldve been building units from germany since trun 1 and they will be in the same spot as units from romania by turn 3 anyway.
2. Second wave. Taking ukraine and stalingrad help, but leave you production divide and thus can be isolated. A major in romania is too far from the russians to do anything about. If you bulid fast movers, then they should reach moscow in only two turns, and with a concentrated force.
3. Far away from london. Persia maybe but ypu would make the allies have to spread out their bombers to cripple you effectively. If they bomb out berlin or western the wg, it wouldn’t damage the eastern front. If they bombout romania, focus your bulids on berlin or east Germany. Not really a concern early in the game. Germany has too much airforce to be scared of bombing runs to WG and Ger. Not cost effective for the allies to do. Late game bombing can be a pain but you should already be deep into russia and not need the romainian factory. Your income should be high enough to protect WG and Ger.
4. Protects afainst any incursion into greece. Fast movers can hit that in one turn. Also if your doing a neutral crush, then a major would also help germany set up for turkey in one turn
Its never a good idea for the Axis to do a neutral crush! Greece can be easily defended by Italy or units from Ger.See JDOW’s post above. MIC’s never ever make sense! You will never have the income to fully utilize a romanian major! By the time you do, the factory becomes obsolete because of its postioning. You just wasted 30 ipcs to sit idle. Like JDOW said you are better off spending that 30 on units that can do something. I don’t even like the idea of a minor in romania. Germany does not really need to build any extra factories. The only time they possibly need one is maybe in the middle east if they aren’t able to pry one away from the UK.

@trulpen said in Tutor game: AndrewAAGamer (X) vs trulpen [and everyone else] (A+50) OOB:
Plenty of good ideas here.
Here comes some thoughts and the preliminary bid suggestion. This is still up for debate, since some choices might be a bit fishy. I really like subs and figs though.
sub 62
sub 91
sub 98
sub 106
sub 110
fig Scotland
fig MaltaI like the idea of bolstering the chinese with an inf/art or two, but in OOB when there’s no guerilla, I’d say it’s a bit of a waste. China will be run over like a trolley by a train. The sub in z62 is a beauty though. Very much dissuades that atleast that attack. I considered putting something in z37, but just don’t think it’s worth it since there are better options.
With a lot of UK fleet in the Atlantic being able to significantly control the ocean and specifically z91 and z110, US can invest a bit in transports, but may focus more heartily on the Pacific in order to try to subdue a pesky, growing Japan. US should try to avoid building war ships in the Atlantic, if possible. If JDOW1 goes down under these circumstances, I believe it should be welcomed. I may very well underestimate the strength of that opening though being no expert.
I considered bolstering UK with land units in Africa, but simply make priority of fleet. Subs are cheap and really good in these positions. Regarding z106 and z110 I don’t want to choose between them, but rather have both. The beauty of a sub in z110 instead of a des, is that if Germany attacks, there’s more risk of costly causalties, since eventual scrambled air won’t hit any subs, and also if there’s a lot of over-force, the sub may simply be saved by submerge. With the fig in Scotland, hitting both z110 and z111 should be more or less undoable.
The Scotland fig is the top priority in the bid, so I don’t believe that one is really under scrutiny. The fig in Malta though I believe is rather debatable. The idea is to make a cheap taranto possible. UK should be able to save both the ac and cr while still have killer odds.
I don’t worry at all about an early Sea Lion. I can even taunt it, hoping Germany takes the bait. I believe that’s one of the biggest mistakes Germany can do in the early game. Especially in OOB when Russia may get extra strong from territories in ME and Africa. Germany can simply not afford to ignore Russia. That’s my firm belief, but, yes, I have been wrong before.
All around solid bid I believe. If the Malta fighter is debatable then swap for a tank, art for the tobruk take. I was thinking about stopping J1 as well but short of a BB in 37 I don’t think there are many options better than the sz62 sub.

RE: [House Rules] Should allies receive a bid?
@simon33 If we are talking OOB then the game is not balanced and favors the Axis. And bids above 30 are the only way I’ll play as the Allies. Now all this being said the indiviual players skill is a big variable. I’m sure you can find opponents you could beat with no Allied bid. But assuming equal skill level of the combatants the Axis will almost always win without a bid. League play will prove this theory for you. Play some of the higher tiered players with no allied bid and you will get your bell rung! As for the BM version I think its a much more balanced game. While some claim small bids either for the Axis or the Allies is needed I don’t agree. I would tweak some of the NO’s and rules and call it good.

@trulpen Now I haven’t looked at the map but I have played Andrew and he completely ignored china and went for India. He controlled India and the DEI and the US spent the rest of the game trying to build carriers to match Japan. So maybe a little insight into his thinking.

My Partner is correct. Going back to Turn 13 and 14 there were two fighters on US carriers and 2 fighters on ANZAC carriers and no mention of moving the ANZAC carrier planes to a US carrier on Anzac 14. We will adjust.
That’s ok. Our bad.
No, wait, I disagree partly. In turn 13 it’s very clear that 3 ANZAC-fighters were on the US-fleet before the ANZAC-carrier moved to z55. Then after the carrier moved 1 fig moved in from Queensland.
It’s the client that messed up, since it doesn’t keep track of landings.
Although all 4 figs were supposed to be on US-ac’s, it’s acceptable according to the history that only 3 were.
I looked it over and agree. At the end of turn 13 you clearly had 3 ANZAC fighters on US carriers. The client did mess that up when you moved. However during turn 14 since the client messed up the fighter placement when you moved to sz 33 it should of contained 3 ANZAC fighters. It did not and left two fighters in sz 55 which you moved to India. One of those fighters should of been in sz 33. So before ANZAC goes the correct edit is to remove one ANZAC fighter from India and place it in sz 55. Going forward as of the start of ANZACs turn 15 there are 3 ANZAC fighters on US carriers in sz 55. Lets please try and keep better track of that going forward. Thanks.

RE: League General Discussion Thread
@simon33 said in League General Discussion Thread:
Not just a league question but why does everyone hate the combat move first idea? Ever time I have to reload because I’ve put in the wrong buy I find it really irritating. Enough that it really reduces my enjoyment of playing the game. Why do you players like this idea? In 1.10, you’ll be able to post from the Purchase phase so will that resolve the annoyances with this idea?
Or is it the repair, plunder or CV purchase bugs? I’m guessing that it’s none of those things. Just that it’s different to the way it’s always been.
For me its two reasons. First you are changing the order of the turn phases and thus rearranging the game dynamics. (which I assume the game designer intended to be a certain way, but I could be wrong) I always look at these types of things as if it were a game board set up between two people. With CM first it seems like a dry run at your turn and then you purchase to fill in the holes. Which when sitting at a game board seems quite contrary to the rules and the specific turn phases. I guess I’m concrete and a rules stickler, I am pretty adamant about following the turn phases proprely and not mixing things around. (Always got in arguments with my bro when he would complete his turn in one continuous flow instead of following the run phases lol) For me this applies only to the board game set up. I am much more relaxed when it come to online play.
And secondly I just don’t think that way when playing the game. I have a specific mental routine for each turn. I can see the attacks I want to make. I see what things I want to accomplish in 2-3 turns. I plan for possible opponent moves and I buy accordingly. It gets me all confused if I start moving peices around to attack first. Just my style. I have no problem playing someone online who wants to CM first as long as I can play traditional. As for a face to face that would be a different story… -

@majikforce not much I can do about in this one.
I think it made as you said a difference to an degree in capturing Moscow early, but I would also say that you played the Alternative Route Game slightly differently then the League one.
One was with the information you got. The intel gave you a brighter view of things to possibly come.
Secondly you played the ARG a bit more aggressively I think.
Never the less I admire you as a very competend League Player wish I love to play against.
Hopefully we can do another one this season soon (with the dice on my side).
Yes this was the route I had hoped for had Moscow not fallen earlier than I expected. It was nice to play this game along with our league game kind of like having a crystal ball LOL! As much as I complain about dice I do enjoy our games.

RE: TT MajikAndrew (X) vs Pejones (A+56) OOB
@Pejon_88 @trulpen @AndrewAAGamer Excellent analysis. I came up with the same movement error although I failed to look at the implications for Japan. An even more important reason to call out shared allied fleet capacities.
