      In a  live game that I played, the Japanese overextended his fleet and Russia built a minor in Korea. If the Japanese fleet would have been destroyed, would have been easy to build a transport then take some Jap islands with the help of US fleet! :)
      But yeah the rule says, quote from book: 3 IPCs for each original German, Italian, or pro-Axis neutral territory that the Soviet Union controls. Theme: Propaganda value and spread of communism.

      So pretty straightforward rule IMO, Japan territories are excluded

      In the games a played it seemed that Japan could help the European Axis more by getting in positon to have enough victory cities on their side of the map than really pushing towards Russia.  If Japan pushes to Russia then USA is free to keep spending in Europe.  Maybe I will give this a try though with the newer edition of rules.

      If the US is forced to split it’s income their could come a time where it could haved saved the day at Hawaii or get much needed support to a victory city in Europe but it’s hands will have been tied because of polictial rules and the Axis will win.

      To be honest I don’t really want to win that way.  I respect your position but I do disagree with it.  I would love to see the Axis made a little stronger but I am actually feel pretty comfortable with the USA staying as is for the most part.

      I am starting to think there is not a convential road to victory for the Axis in Global Alpha +2 like in say Spring 1942.  That game was all about killing Russia.  While killing Russia is certianly nice and mostly still neccesary in Alpha +2 it in and of itself will not win you the game. If France is liberated in the meantime or Italy is defeated in Egypt then getting that last victory can be out of reach if Axis timing in finishing Russia is off even a little bit.

      Yeah, I think Global 40 is the first game where defeating Russia is not a game winner for Germany.  In previous games, it seemed to me that once Germany took out Russia, it was just about over for the Allies.  Germany just had too much money for the Allies to stop them.  There are exceptions, like if Germany concentrated so much on taking Russia that they left Berlin absurdly weak and UK or USA slips in with a relatively small invasion force and takes it.  I have seen this happen.  UK takes Berlin, USA lands troops to back them up and most of Germany’s hardware is too far away trying to take Moscow.
      Still, in Global 40, there are a lot more variables.  Even if Moscow falls, so could Rome and Germany has Allies right on their doorstep, not to mention losing a precious victory city.

      I think it sounds like you have sound plan.  I don’t think I will spend nearly as much time in the Pacific next game as the allies early because I have seen that Germany becomes a beast if it is allowed to have it’s way with Russia.  I agree that you will have to most likely come back to save the day in the Pacific at a certain point with the US but hopefully you will have accomplished your goals in Europe by that time with the US.

      I would abuse improved shipyards right off the bat. I would make sure that the USA had the only floating major navy in both oceans. No point of having an edge if you don’t abuse it. And Japan can’t get its cites if they have no fleet.

      In the game I played my opponent pulled off a successful sea lion but it he lost his air force in the assault as well as about 15 german ground units in the assault.  I attacked him with USSR turn 4 and was able to take Norway and then landed about 12 american ground forces there after liberating UK.  He was later able to retake it using his transports.  US was able to take Pearl Harbor so I built a huge navy in the pacific to try and take it back but my opponent kept matching points with me so our fleets got huge.

      Germany was able to recover in the fight against Russia and it was an arms race where both sides built art and inf.  Italy meanwhile became a 40 point country because Africa was over run due to the fact that I had to spend all my points as UK on defending my capital and then on top of that UK was knocked out of the game for awhile.  By the time UK got back in it Italy had won the fight for Africa and could now focus on attacking Russia with Germany.

      I could not stop Italy from attacking Russia with USA because I had to spend all my points on navy every turn because my opponent was spending at least 60+ points to beef up his navy each turn.  Eventually I was at an economical disadvantage and had to make a move.  I decided to attack his navy in the pacific with my navy but I lost the fight because I rolled horrible.  So I conceded at that point.

      It will take more play testing  Okay edits to come I have to move to a different computer brb.

      I would add, however, that the Taranto raid combined with support from the Indian navy and air force makes advancing in Africa a much harder prospect. If Britain does this combined with a US KIF strategy, I don’t think Italy has a chance of making it past Egypt no matter what Germany does. When I play the Allies, this is my strategy of choice.

      Honestly imo in the global game Japan is a lot less of a threat then Germany because America can always come back and crush them later on.

      Get more Axis ships into the open waters of the Atlantic to at least stall the Americans.  Tighten the noose on England and hope that Japan is threatening the USA enough that they can’t afford tons of units for the Europe half.  Italy has always been the weak point to the Axis, hence why we took them out first in the real war.

      Has anyone tried going hard after Russia with all 3 axis powers? Germany could stall Britain using available subs and air and take the +5 bonus away from Russia. They could do the Romania factory and take Leningrad on turn 3 followed by Stalingrad on turn 4 or 5. Meanwhile, Japan could push into Siberia, building an air base in Manchuria and eliminating the infantry stack on turn 2. They could use their navy to force America into the Pacific while pressing towards Moscow through both Russia and China. By the time America could make landings in Europe, Russia would be penned in and unable to pose a threat, allowing Germany to focus on defending itself with a fairly large economy. If America goes after Japan, Moscow falls earlier.

      Actually, Japan loses 8 planes and a transport, while the Allies lose 7 planes and a transport(which would’ve been killed anyway in a J1 attack)

      by that point in the game we couldnt have stopped you… I’m thinking how we could have stopped it from getting to that point in the first place.  A couple of things come to mind… 1) not stockpiling the russian infantry in Amur and 2) when we saw you only bought 2 transports on G1 UK could have taken out the Taranto fleet and just bought infantry.  This might have stopped Italy opening a second front in Russia and stopped a successful sealion.

      I played my fith game of global today, I controlled the axis.  It took about 15 hours and we decided on a draw.  Amercia invested heavily in the Pacific this time and did a major arms build at honolulu.  I was caught off guard by this because in the other games we played America went for either Norway or Italy.  I ended up calling my navy and air force back to sea zone 6 to defend Japan.  I was still able to build a factory and capture India but Australia and China became huge thorns.  Since America kept adding about 60 points to there base in Honolulu each turn I was pinned and could not capture Sydney.  So Australia started building subs each turn and before long they were convoy attacking me for 18 points a turn.  China ran away and consolidated in point in China where they met up with a Russian AA gun. At that point 20 China men would march forward each turn and recapture land.

      Italy defeated Britan in Egypt this time but I could not hold it after the american points spent in the alantic theather showed up.  Germany captured Leningrad but could not really get any further than that.

      Finally around turn ten the I attacked the Americans in the Pacfic with my Japan force but the result was mutal destruction for both fleets.  By this point Russia had a huge defenseive force and so did germany.  We were too tired to keep going then and called it a draw.  Any feeback or thoughts would be appreciated.  It was all and all a fun game.

      I personally like Revised better, because of the NOs (optional rules at back of book) can change up the game play.

      I would like to play Revised with the NOs, but update the naval rules to 1942.

      Buy 1942 for the extra pcs and the Cruisers…  play Revised IMHO.

      I like the minor factory in Romania.  That helps gets units to the south which starts out sparesly defended.  One tricky thing to do is once you have a factory, buy 1 sub and place it in SZ100.  The UK will never get one of their bonuses (for no German subs on the board), and the only way they’ll be able to kill it is by taking Turkey and then moving through, or by having Russia build a factory and then a DD or two.  Both scenarios aren’t very likely.

      Global is going to be the way to go.  No doubt.  However, if time is a concern, Spring 1942 is still a great option.  We play this on Monday nights.  A couple of things though.  GET RID OF THE BOARD!  Download IL’s map and get it printed somewhere.  This is a must.  #2 get an extra set of money.  Poker chips, old style money, whatever.  Those 2 things alone make 1942 version worth playing.

      Try it first. So many people dis the '42 board, when it is perfectly playable. Definitely try playing on it and see if you like it before spending a bunch of money to get a new one printed.

      -Re your comments on African strategy it depends on what your opponent does G1.  It isn’t clear from your post whether he/she will hit Egy or leave the units in Libya.  I’m not big on the SAF factory but it could work ok if USA is going Pacific…Allies shouldn’t be in danger of losing it in any case.  You may also want to consider an India factory …unlike SAF its in the middle of the action and will help you weaken Japan, and down the road you can use it to pump tanks into Africa or even assist Russia.

      -Hitting Belo and WR is a tried and true opening in Revised, and is no doubt similarly effective in 42.  The drawbacks, compared to WR/UKR, are not killing those German units, and leaving Cauc potentially exposed.  The benefits are having more units in position to deadzone Karelia in the early stages of the game.  While in Revised the hope was that the Russians could blitz Norway in conjunction with this move, here the benefit is potentially trapping whatever units are in Norway by preventing them from combining in Karelia with units from Eastern Europe.

      Belo/WR is worth a shot, but I’m not convinced its better then WR/Ukr.
