Action Blocks for Quicker Group Games

  • Sponsor

Here is what our group does during our 6 player Global games so we can play more game rounds in less time… Our game rounds are broken up into 5 different “action blocks”, all actions in each block happen simultaneously, and all actions in each block must be completed before proceeding onto the next block.

    BLOCK #1

    • Germany conducts their entire turn
    • Russia conducts non-combat phase for far east units only
    • Japan conducts their entire turn
(All actions simultaneous however, Russia must move far east units before Japan begins their turn)

    BLOCK #2

    • Russia conducts their entire turn (except for the far east units)
    • America conducts all phases of their turn
    • China conducts their entire turn
(later rounds will demand more awareness of turn sequence, because allied units will merge on Japan)

    BLOCK #3

    • United Kingdom conducts their entire turn

    BLOCK #4

    • Italy conducts their entire turn
    • ANZAC conducts their entire turn
(ANZA units in Africa must be moved last during this block, before moving on to next block)

    BLOCK #5
    -France conducts their entire turn

  • I think that is a really great idea Grasshopper and will definitely make games go faster  :-)

My only suggestion is to have Russia move all units in block 2 due to complications of non combat move when at war with Japan and also ANZAC could just go with France in block 5 to avoid complications with Aussie units in North Africa against Italy

    Love the Idea Grasshopper :)

  • in my group we play in similar ways, but i think it is not wise to do japan’s turn, BEFORE russia bought units.

another thing is, i have to admit, i had to smile that you regarded france as a block for itself… ;)

If there were a reason to change Japan’s strategy based on what Russia purchases, I’m sure it would be a minor issue. A larger issue is the time it takes for Japan to finish their turn, in my experience, Japan is the biggest culprit when it comes to clock consumption and getting Japan started right away is paramount for quick games.
