    • RE: Always losing med fleet with Germany

Waiting to attack Egypt until round two would depend on the type of allied player you are facing. May or may not be effective … some players may not expect it, so that’s kinda cool  …  and, since anything can and will happen in a dice game its fun to change things up sometimes.

Consider attacking Egypt with Germany rd1.  It’s what a lot of G players do.  Many a thread on G first round attack and purchase, check them out.

      Thanks for the input …

But, for online play … the AA rules must be changed from previous versions, correct ?

For example 5 fighters attacking a territory with only 1 AA gun, AA could only roll 3 dice, correct ?

    • RE: I do not understand the new anti aircraft guns rules

1st edition rules states (and all previous versions I beleive) only one AA gun may fire regardless of how many occupy the territory.
2 AA guns still equals one dice roll per attacking planes.

2nd edition rules make no mention of this, in fact they state that each AA gun in the territory may fire up to 3 shots.

So if you have 2 AA guns and 1 fighter attacks you would roll 1 dice for each AA gun… 2 dice.

If you have 2 AA guns and 2 fighters attack you would roll 2 dice for each AA gun … 4 dice.

If you have 2 AA guns and 4 fighters attack you would max out at 3 for each AA gun… 6 dice.

      Seems that simple to me.

    • RE: 1942 Second Edition Preview 2: Map & Setup

Map looks great!  There are several changes from first edition that should make for interesting game play.

But yes, 41 for Germany?  31 for UK on the map … How could they have missed that?!?  Perhaps there is a reason?

Either way, excited about this new version.

    • Best Russia 1 ?

Seems alot of axis players G1 are pretty much going all out for WR, pur 5 inf 5 tanks, abandoned WE and head due east! Basically its takeing good attack rolls from R1 and bad defense rolls from G to get some of these guys to even think of doing something diff. 😛   Then 1 if not 2 J factories, send J fighters to support G for an all out land assault on R.

I know this has already been discussed but, what is the best R1 purchase and comabt play?  Seems axis strat to meet in the middle (at any cost sometimes) is becomeing harder and harder to defend without some help of the dice.

Typically, I pur 2inf 2art 2tanks attack ukraine and wr all out R1 and hope for strong rolls but …

Is Granada right with the Norwegian Gambit ?  Last couple games we battled into double digit rounds when i was axis …

What about belo and wr ?

Hell, what about buying 6 artys or 4tanks 1 arty pulling everything in to WR/R then blow back up!?!

I realize first 2 maybe 3 rounds can belong to axis, would like some feedback on allied, particualy R defense.  When G really gets the ground game goin either stacking kar or kriane with jap air support, russia can get in trouble real quick.

Personally, I beleive the Spring 42 map is balanced when played with dice … I just think the axis may have the best strategys at the moment … I am testing some ideas for allies … hate to see a bid implemented

      Your thoughts?

    • What if R1 goes VERY BAD!?!

Question … my typical R1 (ussr) purchase is 2 inf 2 arty 2 tanks or 3 inf 3 tanks.

Dice combat movement is all out for Ukraine and WR … usually sending 1 Fig or tank to WR instead … leaving around 85% odds in kraine and 99% odds in WR.

If these attacks go bad, example … 1G fig left in ukraine … only 2 or 3 russian units left in WR … what is the best move for russia and the allies ?  Of course in non combat russia remaing inf would head for moscow instead of Bury stack but what of UK, America, how can they help save/aid Moscow quickly against a worthy Axis player ?

I understand lots of variables exist, I would like peoples opionions on this subject.

IMO bad dice, a bad round 1 combat turn for the Russians/Allies hurts quite a bit more than bad dice for the Germans/Axis round1.

    • RE: UK/US vs. Germany/Japan

What a great game it was Granada 🙂  Granada the Great !  You have taught me much.

I do believe we were right in calling it a draw … after Moscow fell, Axis did not make a single correct decision to seal the win. The Allies were still very much in the game.

After a fresh look at the save, maybe Axis should have built a couple Jap factories in Africa and began pumping out troops and/or waited a couple rounds saveing IPC’s until Jap could have dumped a much larger fleet in the pac while Germany built up?

Either way, one for the books!

    • RE: Where people play online?

I tried GTO a few months back when Spring 1942 was free for a couple weeks.  For the most part it was good.  My biggest problem was that you could not save a game.  I found out later that you can mutually agree to a (I forget the exact term) draw, a misdeal, something like that so that it didnt count against your record.  Had a 3 plus hour game with no clear winner and my time was up.  Granada said you can save but it costs additional money.

I pretty much agree with Granada’s pros and cons… 15 bucks isnt so bad either, maybe one day but, I just like triplea, for now thats where I will be.

    • RE: Lets talk Germany Round 1

Since G1 has been comming up lets revive this post for interested parties.  Some good ideas and strats on this thread.

Questions speaking in the language of Dice.

      1. Is sz2 still the best option ?… if G looses this battle to a competent Allied player it is potentially devistating, furthermore; some believe The Norweigan Gambit R1 is the way to go.  Effectively eliminating the sz2 attack.

      2. Could attacking sz10 be worth comparing odds and values to the sz2 attack ?  Some think this a huge G advantage and still this move seems not so popular, why?

      3. Attack sz1 sub remains for G2.

If G looses either sz2/sz10 battle uk/usa will not loose a tranny.

This is dice … anything can and will happen.

      Thoughts ?

Dont feel too bad Advosan … In my 1yr around this game, Hobbes_ is one of the best Spring 1942 players i’ve seen and, a super nice guy.  I have learned much from playing him and watching him play.

At present we have a save starting at round 12 with the stats pretty even ( im Allies as well ) … I am keeping my fingers crossed 🙂

I have played a few games of the 1942 Beta on GTO, its ok, they do offer both dice and low luck, some phaze timer features n such, and they do keep stats however, no edit and no save (for killer long games) at least in the beta version … Not trying to disrespect GTO, TripleA seems better imo, at least for A&A, come join us Col. Web … we need more Spring 1942 players. 🙂

    • Lets talk Germany Round 1

      Purchase - 1 Bomber 2 Tanks 6 Infantry

Current opening moves (considering USSR has takein WR and Ukraine)

Take back Ukraine (which can be pesky sometimes, 3 USSR tanks or more)
      Take Karelia

1 BB 1 tranny to sz15 - attack Anglo with 2 inf 2 tanks and 1 fig from Balkans
      2 Figs to sz12
      1 sub 1 Fig 1 Bomber to sz2

My dilemma is this … there are some risky moves here.

If you lose a fig or even both in sz13 and lose the battle in sz2 thats hard to absorb.  Also a destroyer can kill a solo BB, doesnt happen that often but it can happen.

Loseing the sz2 battle means UK will have 2 transports as well.

That being said, if you win all these battles, you have one heck of a German open!

How about sending the sub to sz1 killing one UK tranny, the Bomber  to Anglo and the fig in the Balkans to escort the BB in sz15.

In non combat 1 sub and des to sz7, 1 sub to sz3 … 3 subs surounding UK and with coordinating Bombers/Figs standing by.

I always heavily fortify Norway including 1 Fig, 1 tank from Eastern Europe and even transporting a unit or two there (considering I have a transport still) also protecting Western Europe from a round 1 UK assault.

For the next couple rounds I purchase 1 Fig 1 Tank and the rest Infantry then adding more tanks after round 3 or so.

Maybe it all comes down to being a risky or a conservative player … personaly I like to get a good foundation early, risking more in later rounds

Adapting to each game is what makes A&A so fun to me.

So … I understand killing the UK BB is important, if you dont attack sz2, how much will it really set you back ?

      Thanks for the feedback.

    • RE: Imperious Leaders 1942 Supreme Map

I had this done at a local sign/print shop.  After a breif discussion with the guy concerning glare and overall quality (lucky for me) he had a scrap piece just big enough of a “canvas type material that should work great.”  His words. So im unceratin of the exact material. If you go into a shop with a low glare/durable material in mind, im sure a professional will know what you need.

Mine was $40 dollars cause of the scrap piece.  Probaly would have been $60 on new material for its size.

As IL mentioned, it is very durable for its purpose and easily rolls up for transport.

If you can print the full size map … you’ll probly be around the 75 dollar area … well worth it if you have the space to accomodate it.
