      @Ozone27:

      As I mentioned before, in San Francisco, the term “tranny” means something a little bit different… :o

      Is it so different?
      I mean, a transport pretends to be a ship :)

      Here is a recent thread where we covered this topic:

      Also, there is a topic below on G1 w/2-hit battleships - 95% of it applies to 1-hit battleships as well. It has some good ideas for Turn 1 German strategies:

      Yeah, I would suggest taking Hawaii, Alaska, and maybe even WUSA (i’ve seen this happen). Disruption tactics are a must when dealing with USA in order to help in a Germans. What you want to do is frighten the USA in at least keeping a garrison in their home country. This gives Germans more time to prepare for a possible WE invasion. If USA doesn’t fall for the bait, then congrats, you now have a steady source of income. :)

      Being anonymous and all, I would like to recommend two/three most excellent books:

      -The rise and the fall of the Thrid Reich, by William L. Shirer. This book is fantastic! All you wanted to know of the German stirde to power and their downfall is in here. Has won alot of awards. Should last you 6 months.

      -The second world war [a very innovative title] by martin Gilbert. This book has a more general overview and is more focused on the how the civilians and soldiers had it during the war.

      -Rommel as military commander, by Roanld Lewis. This book has the biography of herr Rommel and all the tactics he used. The book I have is rather old (1968), but it is probably out there somewhere.

      Enjoy,

      Vinnie

      O

      I 100% concur with my esteemed colleagues: USSR has essentially handed you a “free” tank in Africa–don’t let 'em get away with it! No one wants to be the guy who “overextended” himself in Africa; a minimal buildup with a maximum result is the order of the day here. This Norwegian ARM is essentially “free”; you start the game w/ it. Who knows you might even save the TR (not likely)! When you fly the FTR out T1 (highly advisable) the you’ve still got 3 INF in Finland–they are good for at least 1 hit in the inevitable battle. And by the time you lose Finland you may have 9 more IPC’s coming in from Africa to make up for it.

      Just my $0.02.

      well I went back and checked again and must admit I was mistaken. The tanks can only pull back from a blitz, which I guess has always been the rule. My bad. Anyway, having played with that rule for a few games of the kind described above, I still say it makes for a very interesting match. Germany benefits, but so does Russia since Russia gets to use her tanks more often.
