Yes, in the context I was speaking the semi-decent price is in the future, as you were speaking of Risk Anniversary Ed.  If AA50 goes out of print for good and rises to crazy prices I don’t think it will be the standard global AA game.  Though, with the internet making it all pretty much free anyway (play-by-forum etc.) I could be wrong.

If IC’s were limited, then abandoning Karelia may indeed be a viable strat (especially if SBR’s were limitted to IPC value of the territory as well).

But, without IC restrictions, the only difference between Russia standing her ground in Karelia and standing her ground in Moscow is that… if they fail in Karelia they have ONE MORE SHOT at holding against Germany, with a UK and possibly a US counter-attack in Karelia to protect them in the interim.

first of all, the england taking was an accident. secondly, without all of the capitals, (except maybe russia) there’s not much of a chance of either side winning. the only reason we used the rule above was to lengthen the game a little.

I sure it’ll work out for the Germans being able to launch surprise inf/arm assualts into Finland/Norway with the support of the Luftwaffe. This forces UK/USA to be cautious when landing troops there. However, I think that this should be more of a “Germany only” type rule. As SUD pointed out, with the Allies also having the ability to Canal Cross, this forces Germany to keep troops stationed in the Fatherland, not pretty when you’re also trying to hold EE at the same time.
